If it's the same lady (as seems very likely) she's even mentioned in the linear notes to The Beatles first 1963 LP; 'Please Please Me' by Tony Barrow as introducing The Fab Four in the Radio Luxembourg 'EMI Friday Spectacular' where Tony states; 'Presenter Muriel Young began by reading out their names to the audience....' thank you for above Patrick. I wonder if this is just the occasion when she appeared on Radio Luxembourg, would that EMI Friday Spectacular have been in 1963. There is mention on-line that that Muriel Young had also been a disc-jockey for Radio Luxembourg circa 1967-8, does anyone recall hearing her as a disc-jockey around that time on Radio Luxembourg, is there a history of Radio Luxembourg to say she was a disc-jockey there and then.

Muriel was a Radio Luxembourg disc-jockey 1961 -1968, here she is talking about her time as one, especially when she interviewed The Beatles, it says on the film 1961-1968. I think you will enjoy this Patrick and everyone. Muriel appears at 1.40 - 3.53 minutes of this Part 3 of Farewell FAB 208 -Radio Luxembourg. www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3hgZZWT4Kw

In 1968, Muriel joined Granada Television and founded their children's department. One of the shows she created was Anything You Can Do, a pan-country talent contest for youngsters (10-16) with a knock-out element, so you might have Tyne Tees playing against Anglia. In 1970, Muriel did some of the auditions in the London Offices of Granada Television. The original host of Anything You Can Do was Ed Stewart. Later it was Chris Kelly. It ran for over 5 years, 30/4/69 - 2/7/74, spanning 4 Series. Lostshows.com says of the 56 episodes made, 55 are Missing. Perhaps an opportunity here for some-one to locate a Missing Episode! That would be a fitting tribute to Muriel.
forgot to say Winners 1969: Border Television

I remember the series myself so it would be interesting to see an episode again!

She certainly moved around a lot. She was with UTV for a brief period in 1966/7 as the presenter and editor of a women's magazine called Hullo There. The series' broadcast history is somewhat confusing as 'Hullo There' was a slot name and so entertainment and sports shows were also advertised in listing magazines under that title.

I'm afraid that I can't help you. You'd need to contact UTV yourself.

thanks for this John. Yes a good question, if either was broadcast. But below may help, or Kaleidoscope or other may be able to tell us for sure. Television For Children Associated-Rediffusion is held at the bfi on 35 mm Colour Positive 8200 Feet and Digital Betacam 83.29 minutes. Synopsis: Howard Williams and Muriel Young introduce the second part of the showcase of A-R's children programming. Howard apologises for the poorquality of the programmes usually broadcast live, but transferred to film for this cinema presentation. An alternative title that the bfi have for this is, National Film Theatre Children's Show. It does contain a complete programme of Small Time: Brock And Bruin - Policeman Bruin. For older children, there is a 7 minute extract of Nature Page with Graham Dangerfield. Muriel Young introduces Music Parade..a complete programme of that. The cast for this also included Wally Whyton, Francesca Annis, John Dankworth, Redvers Kyle, Joe Melia, Peter Firmin among others. I think Kaleidoscope are aware of this and taken into account the 2 complete programmes and extracts from other A-R programmes, but they or some-one will correct me if I am wrong. The bfi also hold the Butlin's Festival of Re-union 1958 on 16 mm with Muriel Young, Benny Hill, A-R's dance team from Cool For Cats among others. They also have Butlin's Re-union Of 1959 on 16 mm with Muriel, Kenneth Horne, Brenda Bruce. TV cameras for A-R filming orchestras, Benny Goodman etc. These were both made by Drayton Film Productions, perhaps some-one can tell us if they ever made programmes for television.
