From what i recorded it seems that freeview/Virgin Media broadcast BBC4 in the correct format which in the case of the TOTP was 4:3. However the Sky+ broadcast's are 'stretched' to 16:9 for some reason.

I Think that 'Big Hits' was a massive move forward in the presentation to the mainsteam of archive totp performances.
They showed the performances in full with no voiceovers and with only brief captions which for the 'general public' had valid information on the clips.
I'd like to see more of these 'Big Hits' shows including all the orphan clips that exist and also some more of the recent discoveries. Much, Much better that totp2.
Well done BBC4

Wasn't this discussed some years ago on here?. And if i remember i think the concensus was that the Small Faces clips had been 'colourized'. Or perhaps i'm mistaken

Yes, i recorded both showings. As many of you know UKGold did butcher quite a lot of the re-showings but not always for copyright reasons, some times just to fit the adverts in!

How many more times are they going to show these clips? Stealers Wheel is the only one that doesn't look familiar, I suppose that will be "Stuck in the Middle With You", a promo sourced from Toppop or am I being cynical I'd hope that it would be the recently 'discovered' TOTP performance. and hopefully Stevie Wonder's - I don't know why from 1969. Fingers crossed for more unshown stuff

and now to get back to the topic.... ;D
Some more info on upcoming totp.
The first Totp showing is from 1st April 1976 (Tony Blackburn).
"Big Hits: TOTP 1964 to 1975 A selection of performances from the first 12 years of Top of the Pops, featuring the Rolling Stones, Peter Sarstedt, Tom Jones, Stevie Wonder, Julie Driscoll, Queen, the Kinks, Procol Harum, Stealers Wheel, the Seekers and Status Quo "
Looks like there might be some of the recent 'finds' amid these clips?
"Top of the Pops: The Story of 1976 Documentary examining how the BBC's flagship pop show reflected changes in British music and culture during 1976. As the popularity of glam rock faded, no dominant musical scene emerged to replace it, leading to chart success for bands including Abba, Showaddywaddy, the Brotherhood of Man and the Wurzels - while outside the mainstream, punk rock was rapidly growing in popularity. Featuring contributions by Tony Blackburn, Paul Morley, Toyah Willcox, David Hamilton and Dave Haslam ".

Yes, both missing/wiped.
The best hope for any performance of Chinatown would be foreign archives. The Move did tour various european tv studios during that time so maybe some may have survived.

Thanks for that, i've updated that list with some of those recent finds.
by the way does anyone have any information of the promo clip that was filmed for 'Fire Brigade.?
The information i have is from a press statement in December 1967 which states: "The Move bassist Ace Kefford is reported to have suffered “complete mental and physical breakdown” during the filming of a promo clip for the group’s forthcoming “Fire Brigade” single. "
Did they complete this?
