Hi William ,well you have managed to strike gold again with pans info ,you have helped me so much with gathering lots of important info on songs that pans people danced to on totp ,especially from the year 1972 where there has been virtually no accurate records kept anywhere of the discs they performed to,when I tried to compile an accurate database of pans dances some years back I knew it was gonna be a hard task but you have helped tremendously in filling in some important gaps, many thanks and keep on digging William mate.cheers

Edinburgh Evening News review of The 6/7/72 Top of the Pops...
Sometimes on Top of the Pops it's the imperfections that give the show some bite. Everybody, groups and fans alike are on their best behaviour and you can bet that everything will be lovely, and strictly legitimate when Tony Blackburn is link man. Last night a piece of rough unprofessional film shot in a recording studio, featuring a group called Dr.Hook provided the meatiest moments in the programme, apart from the gyrations of Pan's People, who obliged with the great cleavage and naval show of 1972. They looked like something out of Arabian Nights. I am still taking the tablets.
Pity the article did'nt say which song Pan's People were dancing to?... but I'm sure David Saunders or Jerry will know?
Wish he'd given more info on the Dr Hook promo film as well.

William - according to Popscene's TOTP listing for 6 July 1972, Pan's People danced to "I've Been Lonely For So Long" by Frederick Knight, and the Dr. Hook video was for "Sylvia's Mother".

I can verify from One for the Dads that Frederick Knight was the Pan's People routine on TOTP 06/07/72. Here is some footage of Dr Hook's Sylvia's Mother. Possibly this was the footage broadcast in July 1972: www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPrixYOTNHw

Co-incidentally I was thinking about the Dr Hook-Sylvia's Mother performance the other day. Unfortunately I can confirm that the youtube link you provided isn't it. I recall it was very grainy film promo, a plain dark background with the whole group miming to the record.

This is more likely to be the promo that was shown on TOTP.

The raw footage used to make that rather weird montage you linked to is from a show recorded for Danish TV towards the end of 1972 (after their second single had been released). It was live performances of four songs filmed on Shel Silverstein's houseboat. The complete audio is available on various bootlegs and presumably the complete video exists somewhere although it has only been posted as individual songs on YouTube which have been compiled into a playlist here: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEAE353177A2F5FC3It doesn't appear to have been released officially yet...

On a completely different note, I'm sure I saw Julie Ege on TOTP performing "Love", wearing a short lace-up top which showed a fair amount of flesh, but (now, how can I put this..?) 'lower-boob' rather than 'low-cut cleavage'. Was this the costume Kev?

Can't find any trace of her being on TOTP though, so I might be mistaken.. definitely saw here on some TV show though.. !
