Hi there , difficult one for me. My favourite individual Hartnell episode of all is crusade part 3 (The wheel of fortune, but there are a few really good stories. The Rescue, the Romans - brilliant, The Time Meddler. The Dalek Invasion Earth is great, using outside broadcasting for the first time. twenty years ago I loved the Web Planet, but I just cannot watch it now - too slow. The Space Museum - I have to agree with Jaspal earlier. But after much waffling here, I am going for the Romans.

Even though there were two coincidences where the Doctor almost finds Barbara during the chase between her and Nero, and again by sheer coincidence to the point where it stretches credulity that she is the slave that Nero just happens to spectate with when Ian and Delos have their fight, I went for The Romans as the best for me in this season. The sauna scene is one of my favourite funny moments in all of Doctor Who, and the fridge joke makes me smile too.

So, we're all keen on a once a month "Favourite" poll all the way up to Season Six?

the time meddler because it takes a while to piece together what's really going on. plus it's the first story to feature a second tardis with a functioning chameleon circuit!

And as Steven's first story with Vicki the interplay between them in Episode 1 is great as they establish the pecking order between them. Really, the timing of the story is so perfect in the season. It's Steven's skepticism that helps keep you guessing, and Peter Butterworth's performance is completely charming.

I love the Chase. However I found that after Ian and Barbara left it just wasn't the same. Every Doctor has assistants that define their era and without them as I said it's not the same. The Doctor and Steven didn't really bounce off each other like Ian did.

The Doctor and Steven didn't really bounce off each other like Ian did. The switch from Susan to Vicki I felt went well. Vicki was both replacing her, but wasn't trying to be her. I enjoyed the scenes between her and the Doctor, Ian, and Barbara. Steven is just something different and sadly I think we have his best episodes missing. His scenes in Masterplan and Massacre really stood out for me, and his farewell scene in Savages is emotional. I also think that his character worked well with both Vicki and Kingdom. (Katarina wasn't around long enough, and Dodo is another matter all together). I've no comment on Ben and Polly, as I have yet to hear Smugglers and Tenth Planet. Though I liked their introduction in War Machines.

Most of my favourite Hartnells are historical and it's got to be The Romans for me. The nearest Dr Who got to a Carry On Movie. Love the scenes with the lady mixing the poisons (Ribos Operations Seeker for all you triva buffs!) It's a million times better than Fires Of Pompei.

Such a varied selection on offer - with/without monsters, with/without credible plots and historical versus sci-fi... But I plumped for Time Meddler as you get to see two top-notch character actors make the most of their parts, two conniving Time Lords playing cat and mouse with us Earthlings as pawns, a typically gloomy 1960s set and a finale that would be truly terrifying if you really were a time-traveller.

Space Museum. If for nothing else, for when Vicki reprograms the computer. "What do you need the weapons for?" "Revolution."
See why telling the truth always pays off in the long run?

As a recent listener to the audio adventures my favorites are the Steven,Sara Kingdom ones, expanding on what is a sadly short(and missing) period on Classic Who.

Dalek Invasion just edges out The Time Meddler for me.

I think The Dalek invasion of Earth is my favorite Hartnell ( recovered) story so I think it's the best of season 2. It's a big epic tale but it feels grounded by the characters and they excellent location footage. The Chase is fun too but it's a little more hit or miss in the middle. Web Planet is bizarre but I like it for that and The Romans is a whole lot of fun.

I'm taking a bit of poetic license here, considering as I didn't make the Season One poll. But it is a month old and some excellent discussion was generated. I genuinely don't know what to pick, either Planet of Giants or The Web Planet. Genuinely difficult choice here.
Went for the Time Meddler but could have gone for any of this series even poor old Rescue which is so atmospheric at the end and as a companion introduction is perfect....
