I came across this NME article dated 18th November 1967 about the ATV show "Good Evening with Jonathan King" I thought it was interesting; especially the bit about filming The Bee Gees in the ATV studio and that Robin Gibb could'nt make the show due him being in a TRAIN CRASH at HITHER GREEN it has b/w pictures of The Bee Gees and Jonathan King interviewing Spencer Davis. Here is another b/w picture from the NME dated 16th December 1967 of The Jimi Hendrix Experience on the Good Evening Jonathan King Show Do any members have details of this show? I searched Lost Shows and IMDB and there's not a lot of info? Do you want me to check it out? William

Hi John,
I don't know if that's the Jimi Hendrix clip from the show? I tried comparing what Jimi and the group were wearing in the b/w pic from the NME but I'm not sure? it's a pity we don't have a colour picture of the performance from that show!
Brilliant clip though;... The Burning of the Midnight Lamp is probably my favourite Jimi Hendrix song
cheers William

No, that's from Dim Dam Dom (which I haven't seen before). The clip that's supposed to be from Good Morning is b/w and the one with the scaffolding backdrop and people standing motionless around the band. Does anyone have a link to an episode guide for Dim Dam Dom? A lot of interesting stuff seemed to appear there - and in colour!

This was apparently shown on JK's show as an insert on 14th October 1967, but it may have been filmed first and foremost for French TV. Hendrix later did an interview on JK's show on 18th November and then returned with the band to perform/mime to "Spanish Castle Magic" on 10th December. Jonathan King claims to have been the person who introduced Jimi to "Hey Joe" when he first arrived in England (The Leaves version I think), though Chas Chandler claims he got Jimi to record it after hearing Tim Rose's version (which is much closer to how Hendrix did it).

Yip...It is scary!...anyway, these are a couple of readers letters from DISC and MUSIC ECHO dated 14th October 1967
MOTHERS OF INVENTION? SONS OF CLOWNS!
"THE SONS of Clowns" might be a more apt title for Zappa's group. Apart from being utterly repulsive to look at, and their "music" an assault upon the ears, Frank Zappa did'nt appear the musical genius he is claimed to be when interviewed by Jonathan king on his TV programme "Good Evening." His abrupt answers to Mr. King's questions were less than informative. MARY GRANT, 44 Churchfield Road, Walton-on-Thames, Surrey.
How can Frank Zappa say the Beatles are bigger than Jesus Christ? Surely he must realise that God created everyone including the Beatles, and that God simply allows them to be excellent musicians. Zappa should listen to Cliff Richard who has the right outlook. MONICA DAVIS, 142 Southchurch Boulevard, Thorpe Bay, Essex.

CARL WAYNE of The MOVE could'nt stand Jonathan King, according to the NME dated 14th October 1967 he had offered to (alter) the shape of Jonathan king's face following depreciative remarks Jonathan had made about the group. So I take it that the MOVE were'nt on the show?
I'd like to know what King said?

Paul, Thank you for posting the Carl Wayne "Rock 'n' Roll" discussion clip. It was very interesting, also no hint of any aforementioned animosity between Messrs King and Wayne, so once again, you've got to take the NME's reporting with a pinch of salt? or was this clip filmed before any (alleged) spat?
