This unbroadcast corporate promotional film from 1977 provides a broad overview of Ulster Television's operations and includes appearances from many of the station's personalities and senior executives. This film is sourced from the sole surviving U-Matic copy which was rediscovered in 2012.
7:15 pm Fleadh Ceoil 1968 - David Mahlowe travels across the Irish border for this colourful documentary on the 1968 instalment of Ireland's biggest annual traditional music festival (TX: 25/12/1968).
7:45 pm Counterpoint - "Violent Death on The Border". David Dunseith and Gary Gillespie investigate the threats faced by the scattered Protestant communities living along the Irish border in an edition of Ulster Television's long-running investigative current affairs series. This programme is sourced from an off-air U-Matic tape made for legal purposes and includes all the advertisements broadcast during and after the programme (TX: 27/11/1980).
8:25 pm Makem Sing - Renowned Irish folk singer-songwriter Tommy Makem returns to his Ulster roots in the sole surviving episode of his 1971 series for UTV. Best known for his collaboration with the Clancy Brothers, Makem's blossoming solo career meant that the series was taped during a gap between sold-out international engagements (TX: 30/03/1971).

9:30 pm The Scandalous Parson - Neil McCarthy stars as eighteenth century satirist Jonathan Swift in an experimental play which sees the cleric pitted against a modern-day television interviewer (David Mahlowe). Thought lost until 2011, this programme is believed to be the earliest surviving Northern Irish television drama. Originally broadcast as a special one-off episode of Flashpoint, UTV's nightly current affairs series, it is sourced from a slightly edited telerecording negative produced for overseas sales. 10:00 pm Good Evening Ulster - Elton John joins Gloria Hunniford live in studio for this early edition of Ulster's long-running magazine series, which also features UTV stalwarts Brian Baird and Jackie Fullerton. This programme is sourced from an off-air U-Matic recording (TX: 27/03/1979).

We look back at the golden years of BBC Birmingham, operating from their custom-built Pebble Mill studios. Pebble Mill was a special place and had a long association with Kaleidoscope. It is still fondly remembered by everyone who worked there. We celebrate the place, its people and programmes in this affectionate tribute.

This programme is notable for being Birmingham comic Jasper Carrott's first ever television work. Presented by Duncan Gibbins with Jasper Carrott, Marylin Lewis, John Main, Jim Hornsby, Harvey Andrews, Graham Cooper, Gareth Owen and Frank Worthington (TX: 19/08/1975).
12:30 pm Contact - "Mother Muffin's Music Stand" - Victoria Wood appears on her television debut in this one-off special, also featuring Coventry School of Music Band, Jim Davis and his Quintet, Eagle Jazz Band, Keeley Ford, Nottingham Saxophone Quartet. Followed by a trailer for the next Contact programme and scenes from the Closedown programme later that night (TX: 03.12.1974).
1:00 pm Jasper at the Mill - Jasper Carrott reminisces about the building that launched his television career and shares some memories of his time there in this specially recorded interview, intercut with footage from his shows.
1:30 pm Guest Panel - Nice Work at the Mill. Acclaimed author and academic David Lodge joins producer and executive Michael Wearing to talk about their television work for BBC Birmingham. David adapted his own novel Nice Work into a highly-regarded serial starring Warren Clarke and Haydn Gwynne, filmed at the University of Birmingham where he was Professor of English Literature. He also adapted the 1994 version of Charles Dickens' Martin Chuzzlewit. In a long and prolific career, Michael has been responsible for many series which have changed the television landscape. As a script editor, he worked on Second City Firsts, Pickersgill People and an edition of Play for Today called "The Black Stuff", written by Alan Bleasdale. The huge success of this brought Michael to national note in the industry and he produced Bleasdale's sequel series, Boys from the Blackstuff. Other highly acclaimed programmes followed, including the landmark serials Bird of Prey and Edge of Darkness. While BBC Head of Serials, Michael oversaw Our Friends in the North, Pride and Prejudice, Martin Chuzzlewit and Sleepers. He was also an executive producer on Dennis Potter's final works, Karaoke and Cold Lazarus.

2:10 pm Guest Panel - Look! Hear! Lookback. In what promises to be a hugely entertaining panel, Chris Phipps, John Holmes and Toyah Willcox look back at the Midlands music and arts show that celebrated contemporary pop and rock culture. Toyah will need no introduction. One of the defining singer-songwriters of the seventies and eighties, she has 8 Top 40 singles and more than 20 albums to her name. She is also a highly acclaimed screen and stage actress, presenter, producer and author. She co-presented Look! Hear! alongside John Holmes and Chris Phipps, who was also the programme's booker. Chris has fond memories of the Black Country. He taught at Halesowen and freelanced for the Black Country Bugle before becoming the BBC's correspondent for the area. He was last at The Talbot Hotel when he interviewed George Melly here in the seventies! Since Look! Hear!, Chris has become a renowned producer and director, behind the cameras on many music specials. These include Motor City Music Years, the definitive retrospective look at Midlands pop history. John is now a well-known name on BBC Radio Nottingham and is noted for editing Bolero for Torvill and Dean!

3:30 pm Look! Hear! - Toyah Willcox, John Holmes, Chris Phipps and Vera Gilbert present this edition of the BBC Birmingham music and arts show featuring The Climax Blues Band (TX: 05/05/1978).
4:00 pm Guest Panel - From Firsts to Fosdyke: Drama at the Mill. Kaleidoscope is pleased to welcome four esteemed guests to remember their involvement in drama at Pebble Mill. A very familiar face on our screens, Philip Jackson has appeared in many favourite series and is probably best known as Chief Inspector Japp in Agatha Christie's Poirot. He appeared in BBC Birmingham productions such as Lizzie's Pictures, Second City Firsts, Pickersgill People and Play for Today's "Shakespeare or Bust". He played "all other roles" in The Fosdyke Saga. Philip's other credits include Brassed Off, Pennies From Heaven, Porridge, Z Cars, Foyle's War, Strangers and Robin of Sherwood. Tara Prem had a long association with BBC Birmingham both as a script editor and later a producer. She served in both capacities on Second City Firsts and Pebble Mill's entries for Play for Today. One acclaimed example she script edited was David Rudkin's "Penda's Fen". Tara produced The Fosdyke Saga as well as Pickersgill People, Play of the Week and later Hearts and Minds and Love Hurts. Writer and director Mike Bradwell's work at BBC Birmingham includes Second City Firsts, The Fosdyke Saga, Playhouse, The Ken Campbell Roadshow and Play for Today. He later wrote and directed "Happy Feet" for Screen One. Peter Ansorge was also a long-serving script editor at BBC Birmingham, working on acclaimed series such as Gangsters and Second City Firsts. He script edited The Fosdyke Saga and BBC Birmingham contributions to Play for Today, which he later returned to as a producer. Peter also produced Playhouse and Empire Road at Pebble Mill. Later he was an executive producer on Dennis Potter's final works, Karaoke and Cold Lazarus and Farrukh Dhondy's Tandoori Nights.
5:00 pm Second City Firsts - "Glitter". Toyah Willcox introduces her screen debut, made at Pebble Mill while she was still at drama school. Featuring Phil Daniels, Noel Edmonds and the pop group Bilbo Baggins. Produced by Tara Prem and script edited by Peter Ansorge, this play was written and directed by Tony Bicat (TX: 28/11/1976).
5:30 pm Pot Black - Episode 6. Alan Weeks presents the earliest surviving edition of the long-running snooker tournament, which is credited with bringing the sport into the mainsteam. The players are John Spencer and Eddie Charlton (TX: 20/03/1973).
6:00 pm Ballad of the Severn Valley Line - a programme about this famous line of the GWR, now preserved locally as the outstanding Severn Valley Railway. Produced and directed by Derek Smith, this item was saved by an engineer on a compilation tape of railway items (TX: 06/07/1971).
6:25 pm London to Birmingham in Five Minutes - Pebble Mill's version of the famous London to Brighton film from the 1950s.
6:30 pm The Cheapest Show on the Telly - an untransmitted pilot devised by and starring Don Maclean which also features a young Dudley comic named Lenny Henry. Recorded on 23rd April 1978, this programme was recovered from Philips 1500 cassette by Kaleidoscope's Kathryn Shuttleworth.
6:50 pm Goodbye to the Mill - A personal tribute recorded and edited by Tim Bentinck, presented here today with his kind permission. Shot during The Archers' final recording days before the move to The Mailbox and set to music (with original lyrics by Tim), this is a final and fond farewell to Pebble Mill.

1:30 pm Guest Panel - Nice Work at the Mill. Acclaimed author and academic David Lodge joins producer and executive Michael Wearing to talk about their television work for BBC Birmingham. David adapted his own novel Nice Work into a highly-regarded serial starring Warren Clarke and Haydn Gwynne, filmed at the University of Birmingham where he was Professor of English Literature. He also adapted the 1994 version of Charles Dickens' Martin Chuzzlewit. In a long and prolific career, Michael has been responsible for many series which have changed the television landscape. As a script editor, he worked on Second City Firsts, Pickersgill People and an edition of Play for Today called "The Black Stuff", written by Alan Bleasdale. The huge success of this brought Michael to national note in the industry and he produced Bleasdale's sequel series, Boys from the Blackstuff. Other highly acclaimed programmes followed, including the landmark serials Bird of Prey and Edge of Darkness. While BBC Head of Serials, Michael oversaw Our Friends in the North, Pride and Prejudice, Martin Chuzzlewit and Sleepers. He was also an executive producer on Dennis Potter's final works, Karaoke and Cold Lazarus.

2:10 pm Guest Panel - Look! Hear! Lookback. In what promises to be a hugely entertaining panel, Chris Phipps, John Holmes and Toyah Willcox look back at the Midlands music and arts show that celebrated contemporary pop and rock culture. Toyah will need no introduction. One of the defining singer-songwriters of the seventies and eighties, she has 8 Top 40 singles and more than 20 albums to her name. She is also a highly acclaimed screen and stage actress, presenter, producer and author. She co-presented Look! Hear! alongside John Holmes and Chris Phipps, who was also the programme's booker. Chris has fond memories of the Black Country. He taught at Halesowen and freelanced for the Black Country Bugle before becoming the BBC's correspondent for the area. He was last at The Talbot Hotel when he interviewed George Melly here in the seventies! Since Look! Hear!, Chris has become a renowned producer and director, behind the cameras on many music specials. These include Motor City Music Years, the definitive retrospective look at Midlands pop history. John is now a well-known name on BBC Radio Nottingham and is noted for editing Bolero for Torvill and Dean!

4:00 pm Guest Panel - From Firsts to Fosdyke: Drama at the Mill. Kaleidoscope is pleased to welcome four esteemed guests to remember their involvement in drama at Pebble Mill. A very familiar face on our screens, Philip Jackson has appeared in many favourite series and is probably best known as Chief Inspector Japp in Agatha Christie's Poirot. He appeared in BBC Birmingham productions such as Lizzie's Pictures, Second City Firsts, Pickersgill People and Play for Today's "Shakespeare or Bust". He played "all other roles" in The Fosdyke Saga. Philip's other credits include Brassed Off, Pennies From Heaven, Porridge, Z Cars, Foyle's War, Strangers and Robin of Sherwood. Tara Prem had a long association with BBC Birmingham both as a script editor and later a producer. She served in both capacities on Second City Firsts and Pebble Mill's entries for Play for Today. One acclaimed example she script edited was David Rudkin's "Penda's Fen". Tara produced The Fosdyke Saga as well as Pickersgill People, Play of the Week and later Hearts and Minds and Love Hurts. Writer and director Mike Bradwell's work at BBC Birmingham includes Second City Firsts, The Fosdyke Saga, Playhouse, The Ken Campbell Roadshow and Play for Today. He later wrote and directed "Happy Feet" for Screen One. Peter Ansorge was also a long-serving script editor at BBC Birmingham, working on acclaimed series such as Gangsters and Second City Firsts. He script edited The Fosdyke Saga and BBC Birmingham contributions to Play for Today, which he later returned to as a producer. Peter also produced Playhouse and Empire Road at Pebble Mill. Later he was an executive producer on Dennis Potter's final works, Karaoke and Cold Lazarus and Farrukh Dhondy's Tandoori Nights.
5:00 pm Second City Firsts - "Glitter". Toyah Willcox introduces her screen debut, made at Pebble Mill while she was still at drama school. Featuring Phil Daniels, Noel Edmonds and the pop group Bilbo Baggins. Produced by Tara Prem and script edited by Peter Ansorge, this play was written and directed by Tony Bicat (TX: 28/11/1976).
5:30 pm Pot Black - Episode 6. Alan Weeks presents the earliest surviving edition of the long-running snooker tournament, which is credited with bringing the sport into the mainsteam. The players are John Spencer and Eddie Charlton (TX: 20/03/1973).
6:00 pm Ballad of the Severn Valley Line - a programme about this famous line of the GWR, now preserved locally as the outstanding Severn Valley Railway. Produced and directed by Derek Smith, this item was saved by an engineer on a compilation tape of railway items (TX: 06/07/1971).
6:25 pm London to Birmingham in Five Minutes - Pebble Mill's version of the famous London to Brighton film from the 1950s.
6:30 pm The Cheapest Show on the Telly - an untransmitted pilot devised by and starring Don Maclean which also features a young Dudley comic named Lenny Henry. Recorded on 23rd April 1978, this programme was recovered from Philips 1500 cassette by Kaleidoscope's Kathryn Shuttleworth.
6:50 pm Goodbye to the Mill - A personal tribute recorded and edited by Tim Bentinck, presented here today with his kind permission. Shot during The Archers' final recording days before the move to The Mailbox and set to music (with original lyrics by Tim), this is a final and fond farewell to Pebble Mill.
