David Bowie – Life on Mars, 13/07/73 and/or 27/07/73? www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxNr2jvo5Pw First reported around 2002, the 13/07/73 edition is said to exist complete in Germany, but as of yet, information has yet to be confirmed of its existence Top of the Pops, 02/11/72 (audio only) missingepisodes.proboards.com/thread/2459 Seems to be the official running order of the incomplete audio recording except that Archie Bell and the Drells were danced to by Pan’s People on 26/10/72 The middle of the road 'sacramento' is from the mountain music spectacular film compilations at one time available as supe 8 films from Derann. I definitely recall that LIFT OFF showed them but not sure about the BBC. I remembered a different film run for LIFE ON MARS on TOTP also. It was basically stock film odds and ends trimmed together showing that apollo take off clip used in Dr Who revenge of the cybermen. Also footage of a nuclear bomb going off.

"If" Christie had a promo featured on TOTP for Yellow River then it is more likely to be this one which was filmed first and features the original drummer Mike Blakley. The other promo was filmed at a later date, maybe for the Dave Cash Radio Show. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ5-FoiBuVcYes. Pity that promo won't save youtubes been doing that a lot lately with music clips. The other promo is from another mountain music spectacular reel. I'm sure that was either used on LIFT OFF or as a filler when ITV had a strike in early 1971 which meant the TODAY programme couldn't go out. They had a gap between 6 and 7ish. they also ran the original 'king kong' film though don't know how well it fitted the slot.

This promo which was shown on ZDF's Disco is the original promo for Yellow River. If a promo was shown on TOTP it would have been this one. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ5-FoiBuVcView AttachmentThe B&W 'Tienerklanken' promo was filmed a few months later and was only shown on the Belgium TV show, not in the UK. It was filmed especially for that show. View Attachmentand this one is from 'Dave Cash Radio Show' View AttachmentHope this clears this one up. Seems to indicate then that either 'Dave cash radio show' reused the mountain clips or the other way round. You can tell they're from the mountain series by the floral typeface they use. But LIFT OFF also used those promos such as the one for 'poppa joe' the sweet.

Top of the Pops Middle of the Road – Sacramento, 1972 (06/04 or 13/04?) – Top of the Pops? www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFc8Yl9Cjgg Set on a steam train on an Amsterdam river in The Netherlands and on the DVD compilation “Sensational Sounds of the 70s Volume 1”, was this shown or 2 different studio performances, as billed? Were there two different TOTP promos used for Life on Mars? The one you describe appears to be different from the above link. I've never seen Lift Off, other than the few clips uploaded onto Youtube, but it looks like they may have shown more official promo films than Top of the Pops. I don't know how many official promo films were shown on TOTP, but a lot of the film footage shown from existing and privately owned editions with inserts online, was of Top of the Pops. The main era of Caravel Films seemed to be pre-1977, although a small number of TOTP promos were made in the 1980s. Lift Off also sounded a very good show. The little I've seen of it including clips of The Sweet and interviews with Ayshea look very interesting.

I've seen a few different films of Christie, including the one that Laurence first saw at the time on Top of the Pops in 1970. Fingers crossed that one or more of the studio performances of Yellow River surface one day, as it would be great to also see them. Here is an interview of the band from 1970 from Jeff Christie's excellent links: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Tj7zz34tzA

""Post by mike phillips on Nov 30, 2014 at 5:52pm Found this clip of Roy Wood from 1975 www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTq3ZglWs7E. The poster states the video was from a wiped TOTP and was used as a promo."" I missed this! I apologize to Mike Phillips and I'm crediting him now! It did take a flurry of messages and checking by Paul Watkins and myself to ascertain it was assuredly TOTP, and it is. Also, at the moment, there is no certainty as to which date it is from. Whichever date this was shown on at the time, was it repeated or was the performance shown on the other date?

It was a performance (was then used as a promo afterwards); it was filmed in the TOTP studio, by the BBC and for the BBC. Which date, be it either or both? We're still not sure which date(s) it was shown on!

Not sure when lift off used a promo for poppa Joe ,but the 1972 season started in April 72 and according to TV times the sweet appeared in the studio in June singing their latest release little willy and it says that the sweet will also single their previous chart entry poppa Joe,so I'm presuming that was also sang live in the studio as well.

Were there two performances of "Oh what a shame", because that's not the one I remember. He had a top hat which he'd doff at various points during the song

(I am briefly straying into Dutch territory! (Baarle-Nassau, anyone? ) The Eddy-Go-Round Show is meant to be almost completely lost, save for the Abba episode and one other, saved by the host, and now timecoded. I am also aware that the Cliff Richard appearance in 1976 and the Summerset special also exist. With a little research, I thought it would be an idea to see if I could locate any other footage, knowing that video recorders in the 1970's sold in the Netherlands very well, per capita, as Philips were based there.) Here we are:- www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9nSJFjIinMwww.youtube.com/watch?v=eSUYmPkgEqMThere are a couple of other clips, but they seem to come from masters of some sort. And also from the same show:- www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZmRKjPuh00

Just to allow myself a personal joke....you'd never get me finding any lost Bowie.... Here, confirmed to be missing, although known on the Bowie collectors' circuit, is the Boy from Bromley appearing on that most cutting edge or avant-garde shows, Afternoon Plus, 12/02/1979!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhRMhMIOswc""Missing or incomplete episodes for programme AFTER NOON PLUS. Series 1 12.02.79 with Bernard Braden, Judith Chalmers, John Edwards, James Ellis, Mary Parkinson (missing)""
