I see that the Artwoods appeared on the Five O'Clock Show on May 20, 1966. Do you have any details or know if any recordings have survived.

criticism of singer Patrick Dane who appeared on the 07/01/66 edition of the 5 O'Clock Club Slightly unfair criticising him for chewing gum, given that he was covering a Lonnie Donegan song...Seriously,anyone know what he'd have been singing? Just a guess - nothing more - but it could well have been "Go Out And Get Somebody", which was released as his second Columbia single (DB7749) the previous November.

David Ballantyne's first single, I Can't Express It, had spent four weeks in the Fab earlier in '66, out-performing Bowie's Can't Help Thinking About Me, which charted around the same time –January/February. I Can't Express It was also a Caroline Sure Shot, and David promoted it with a personal appearance on kids' TV show 5 o'clock Club - presumably meeting hosts Muriel Young and superstar owl Ollie Beak!
I've updated the 1966 show index on page 3.

I know that the Five O'Clock Club was shown on Scottish Television (STV) on a Tuesday and Friday of each week during it's run in 1966
(I still have to check out the years 1963-65 for STV)
but in the meantime, do any forum members know if the Tuesday and Friday editions were beamed 'LIVE' from London, or were they pre-recorded on videotape or 16mm film and then distributed to all the other channels, for transmission on those Tuesdays and Fridays?

The latest Neil Hendry post on his thread about Rediffusion was inspirational in this information...so thank you Neil Looking at the information below from this website www.transdiffusion.org/2004/01/01/wembly2 it arguably looks like Rediffusion sent copies of the likes of The Five O'Clock Club to the smaller regions? A NOTE ON ITV Independent Television was set up by an Act of Parliament in 1954. A public corporation, the Independent Television Authority (ITA), was authorised to provide television programmes, financed by advertisements, in competition with the existing non-commercial television service of the BBC. The ITA have appointed 14 different programme companies to produce the programmes of Independent Television. In the three largest areas of population – London, the Midlands and the North of England – four companies divide between them the task of providing programmes. In each of the 10 other areas a single company is responsible for the full week’s programmes. Since 1955 Rediffusion Television (originally Associated-Rediffusion) has been providing the London weekday programmes of ITV. Together with the three other major companies in London, the Midlands and the North (ATV Network, ABC Television and Granada Television) Rediffusion provides a network service of programmes which are seen in the 10 smaller regional areas. Many of these programmes are recorded or are on film and are distributed overseas by Global Television Services (3 Vere Street, London, W.1) acting as agents for Rediffusion Television. The 10 smaller regional areas wereAnglia, Border, Channel, Grampian, Scottish TV,Southern, TWW, Tyne Tees, Ulster, Westward.

An NME from 1963 mentioned that Ron Grainer wrote the theme tune for the 5 O'Clock Club which was entitled "Eagles Nest" by a group called "The Eagles" I have searched on YouTube for this but can't find the song...I then came across this website and it had this... www.televisiontunes.com/5_O_Clock_Show_(The).htmldoes any forum member know if this the "Eagles Nest" theme tune? I'm fairly sure it's not, William. The Eagles were a Shadows-like 4-piece group that specialised in guitar instrumentals. The clip sounds much more recent than '63. BTW, do you know which edition of NME carried that info?
