NOWHERE in the forum rules does it state that asking for help in tracking down lost footage for a member of the band (The Magic Lanterns) is not allowed, in fact it states that THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT THIS FORUM IS FOR!!!!

Welcome Roanan..!! ;-) It's a bit of a free-for-all when it comes to the rules to be honest. I posted 3 extensive posts as my first ones on here some years ago not under my real name. My fault....but my posts were DELETED. That pissed me off and I see that doesn't happen anymore which is good but anyway if you let things settle and don't mention Glitter or Saville a lot then you'll be fine!! :-)

The second item on the Rules list is as follows: I forget what the exact wording of your original post was, but I'm pretty certain that it was a request for a copy of copyright material, which is against the rules. I've also redacted the e-mail address you quoted, for two reasons - firstly it isn't wise to publicly list anyone's e-mail address on a public forum where spambots can harvest it, and secondly because I don't know whose address it is that you are threatening us with.

Since Roanan was looking for help tracking down lost footage for an artist why was his post edited ?

'Pretty sure'? So you just act without even having the decency to read the post first?
What I posted was: I am acting on behalf of Alastair Beveridge, member of 'The Magic Lanterns', to try to locate ANY footage that may exist of any performance made by 'The Magic Lanterns'
NOTHING MORE, and I certainly DID NOT ask to 'trade' or violate any copyright laws.
Speaking of 'copyright' perhaps you need to take some legal courses so you can actually understand what that means, especially when dealing with rights that HAVE NOT BEEN RENEWED FOR MORE THAN THIRTY YEARS

Hitting the CAPS is a bit uncool mate, but your prerogative! However if you stated a few details of any performances that you know of perhaps the goodly members here could help you find out which companies hold the rights to those performances and how you might go about purchasing or requesting a copy. You may be amazed at some of the information that can be gained from these pages Take it from someone who used to get wound up about things, life is too short

I find it exceptionally rude if the poster was merely trying to track down lost footage. Time the moderators start to settle down a bit.
In fact I am losing faith now with many aspects of this forum - no more postings from me in here. Not that that is going to mean anything to anyone of course.

'Pretty sure'? So you just act without even having the decency to read the post first? Read it, acted on it, then put it out of my mind and moved on. I don't memorise every single post I delete or amend. What I posted was: I am acting on behalf of Alastair Beveridge, member of 'The Magic Lanterns', to try to locate ANY footage that may exist of any performance made by 'The Magic Lanterns' NOTHING MORE, and I certainly DID NOT ask to 'trade' or violate any copyright laws. I think it's more than reasonable to infer that you were looking to obtain a copy of said footage from what you said. If you'd asked for information about what may exist, rather than said that you were "trying to locate" it, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Speaking of 'copyright' perhaps you need to take some legal courses so you can actually understand what that means, especially when dealing with rights that HAVE NOT BEEN RENEWED FOR MORE THAN THIRTY YEARS I think you need to be less patronising. Given that the band formed in what, 1962, any TV performances will still be copyright of the TV company in question, or whomever has inherited their intellectual property. Therefore, to talk about rights that haven't been renewed for more than thirty years is irrelevant, because those rights won't have expired yet and won't yet need to have been renewed. If you're not talking about TV spots, but are looking for bootleg film recordings of live performances that may have been made by members of the audience, this isn't really the place to help with that, as we deal with TV programmes in the main, but there may be someone here who knows of a forum you could try.

My tuppence worth is that you didn't win that argument Rob and your replies to the original poster had a whiff of snobbery about them. This mad and wonderful forum has let a LOT more go since I've joined than Roanan's original post so an apology would've been the order of the day methinks.

is not the same as The second item on the Rules list is as follows: I forget what the exact wording of your original post was, but I'm pretty certain that it was a request for a copy of copyright material, which is against the rules. So, no, it was not a reasonable inference. Calm down, apologise to Roanan and move on.

I guess it never occurred to you that I have already been through all of the 'legitimate' channels: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, BBC, Dutch Institute for Sound and Vision, WDR (Germany), etc. and my only remaining option is to find footage in a private collection?
