I guess it never occurred to you that I have already been through all of the 'legitimate' channels: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, BBC, Dutch Institute for Sound and Vision, WDR (Germany), etc. and my only remaining option is to find footage in a private collection? Ah, but then assumption of another person being in the loop about something can lead to misunderstandings and it would be premature of the members here to assume you had already done so. Best bet is to just start again, state what you have done and what kind of help you would like. The posters I am in contact with on here are very much in the spirit of returning any footage we find to its rightful archive or to kal for preservation until it is wanted. (and resist the urge to caps lock )

My tuppence worth is that you didn't win that argument Rob and your replies to the original poster had a whiff of snobbery about them. This mad and wonderful forum has let a LOT more go since I've joined than Roanan's original post so an apology would've been the order of the day methinks. Yes, I'm inclined to agree with some of this.. Roanan, the way I read your original post was as a request to be given copies of said material. If that's not how you intended it to read, then I apologise for misinterpreting you. I've amended the thread title accordingly.

On the positive side, I'd never heard of the Magic Lanterns before now, but am now listening to - and enjoying - a 'Best of' on Spotify Worth pointing out while I'm in this thread, that the email Roanan sent came to me - but that email address is purely a contact one for the Missing Episodes list, nothing to do with the forum. I have one "Magic Lanterns" disc, it's a coloured vinyl on Polydor of "One Night Stand", from the Lebanon.
There is one on ebay (it's not mine)

Not heard of this lot before. I had a look on youtube and they are quite catchy. Might have to invest in a CD I'd never heard of them, either... but I'm liking what I'm hearing! The tracks I'm hearing "Shame Shame", and "One Night Stand" kind of reminds me of Grass Roots records.

Ok, I just bought the CD... I haven't been this excited about a group I'd never heard of before in a LONG time! Thank you, Roanan, for starting this thread and turning me on to this group. I listened to 5 or 6 tracks on youtube, and just had to have the CD. As much grief as youtube gets for copyright issues, I can honestly say, I've purchased upwards of 100 CD's and DVD's as a direct result from seeing or hearing something on youtube.

Thank you David. Alistair appreciates knowing that he has new fans, even if they are coming by 50 years after the songs were released ...and yes, Shame, shame was their hit. Top 30 in UK, top 10 in Canada. As for any live footage, there has still been nothing found. All he wants to be able to do is show his children and grandchildren what he did when he was young and foolish, and to ensure that some kind of musical legacy lives on. Again, if anyone is aware of the existence of any live footage from performances 'The Magic Lanterns' did in Europe (UK, Holland & Germany) please speak up.

It is probably an obvious suggestion, but have you contacted the BFI? They have some archival holdings are only really being dug out recently. Also, do you have any dates for shows they appeared on and the names of the shows in question? These would be of great help in trying to determine what is and isn't known to exist! Remember archive listings can be less than exhaustive, so details like this can be really useful for finding things
