There is probably a simple answer to this, but does any TOTP performance of this track survive? The only listing I can find on it with regards to TOTP is a film clip ex 12/12/74 (which was wiped) but the performance shown on TOTP2 some years ago as per this link is possibly not TOTP I take it? www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9mW3c8I4CA

So, are we saying that the film clip as above was from Lift Off? It's not a promo film, as such. It's an insert of some sort. I think we need Chris Dabbs on the case here.

I think the BBC TOTP2 clip is from a Stocking Full of Stars (just a guess though). There is a question regards a Hey Rock n Roll clip which has a set background as to whether that's from Lift Off. Altogether it's very confusing.

Ray is correct. 'Hey Mister Christmas' is from the 1974 show 'A Stocking Full Of Stars'. I don't believe any clip from 'Lift Off' has ever been on TOTP2.

O/T, a friend of mine has just been in the audience for a Christmas Special. Like a few days ago! Can't say who was the star. But my father was a gravedigger too, and I THINK I'm Scottish, even though I wasn't born there................NO NOT JIM DAVIDSON!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ironically, we have lost 50p and found a £1, so to speak.
The posted clip IS Stocking Full of Stars. The other clip of the same song comes from one of the existing Lift Offs and was shown in part on a Channel 4 show 'Best Xmas Songs'. The confusion stems from Dave Bartram referring to the orphans from the children's home in Harpenden on the interview section, which is the OTHER clip....(irony of an orphan posting about orphans is not lost on me.....)
Which leads us to a clip of Hey Rock n Roll with a similar background to the Hey Mr Christmas....are you keeping up here?....Chris thought it MIGHT be from Lift Off. I was not convinced. Right at the end of the clip there is a typical Granada cut away to the useful audience (meaning ones who mostly couldna got into TOTP, as it was past their bedtime. That and the similar background has convinced me. Soooooooooooooooo.....we have found a lost Lift Off clip of a different song, because of this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Chris Dabbs, please send me a copy!!!!, and Kal too!!!!)

This is an unbelievable coincidence, as I was studying one of my vids for the band on someone else's YT channel last night. Let me clear the matter up for ye all: The TOTP2 clip is 'A Stocking Full of Stars. Exists at the BBC. I have the full show in my private collection. The Hey Mr Christmas as used in the 'Greatest Xmas songs' Channel 4 is from one of the existing Lift Off's. The fact singer Dave Bartram says about the children's home in Harpenden, he's actually referring to the Stocking Full of Stars clip, NOT the one shown, which is an existing Lift Off.
The Hey Rock'n'Roll is from Lift Off from the Spring of '74 & not later in the year. I can tell you this from the hairstyles. Dave was still sporting longer hair than he became known for at this stage. In the band's debut TV performances (New Faces) he was donning a poni-tail. I have a date I think somewhere for this Lift Off...leave it with me, peoples!!!

Hmmm.....I cannot pin down a broadcast date for it, but I'm of the strong belief it's pre-June '74 cos of Dave's hair, as I said! The mystery being that the series did not start until the last week of June. There's no mention of the band appearing in the TV listings of the time.

Perhaps Hey Rock'n'roll is from 45?
45 25th May 1974 J Vincent Edwards - I Can't Let Maggie Go Bay City Rollers - Shang-a-Lang Joe Dolan - Sweet Rock'n'Roller Showaddywaddy - Hey Rock'n'Roll Strawbs - Heroes & Heroines Little Joe - Right On

I thought that (reference your web page a lot, you know), but the background is very similar to the Hey Mr Christmas which we've established is Lift Off. However, interesting bit is, the rumour about 25/05/1974 Rock on with 45 existing in private hands and this existing. Both were Granada shows.... and the cutaway at the end of Hey Rock n Roll is VERY Granada.

I've spent a lot of the day searching through various bits & bobs. Thought I bought up the subject of 45 on here some time back. If I did, then it's been deleted, but I seem to recall SWW performing on this particular episode of 45 at Bellevue Fairground in Manchester. There are some photos I have of them from that time. This is certainly a ball-ache! Attachments:

I remember you bringing the Belle Vue performance before. So, maybe, just maybe perhaps they recorded this for Lift Off in advance of a showing? Lift Off, remember, has no absolute certainty what was shown is correct on a database.
