Does anyone know of any other organisations that are known to supply copies of archive TV shows for a fee. I know Granada Ventures supply copies of shows from the ATV/Central/Yorkshire and LWT back catalogue, but does anyone know of any other suppliers?

I think all of the established broadcasters offer such a service as standard - I know that the BBC and UTV definitely do and I presume that STV would too.

Isn't it always for a rather whopping fee?

Quite often though, it's under a Contributor Access scheme, in other words, you have to have some connection to the programme in question, such as a relative being interviewed. Just wanting to purchase a copy may not be good enough!

I know lots of people are desperate to get old New Faces because their dad played trombone in a New Temperance Seven tribute band. So...if your mum contributed a particularly irritating bray to one of the standard laughter-tracks you're well in!
Seriously,Bryan,it looks as though it varies by company.I'm guessing it's something in particular you're after? If it survives,it might be worth asking here if anyone's heard of copies circulating.

I recently got in touch with ITN Source regarding some of the "Star Soccer" games listed. They quoted me a price of £120 + VAT for a viewing copy. As ITN Source didn't deal with private requests I was passed on viewers.requests@itv.com who told me it would take up to a month to post me the discs I wanted. Unfortunately, as people on here will know, the ITN Source site lists items that no longer exist and the trail went cold. I found both companies very helpful.

Lostshows says Star Soccer ran from 1969-1977,that there were two episodes of which one is OK,and one has only sequences surviving. Not right,I suspect?

I think it was Thora Herd who told the story of her char-lady,who was hopeless at polishing floors. So Thora (I think it was) showed her how to do it,with a bit of elbow-grease.After 5 minutes the char-lady,having looked on with interest, said "You've missed a bit there".
Moral: I could never have put those lists together, but I'm not bad at criticising others' work!

Lostshows says Star Soccer ran from 1969-1977,Not right,I suspect? No. It started much earlier in the '60s. It used to be shown by ATV London on Sunday afternoons (I don't have an exact date for first transmission). When ATV lost their franchise in the London area in 1968 though, LWT began screening their own "The Big Match" programme, which ran for years. "Star Soccer" carried on being shown by ATV Midlands though and the 1969 - 1977 timeframe probably relates to that in some way. We never saw it again in the London area after July 1968 though.

Which I took to mean as 'lost or wiped'

Hi,Jeff, I was worried that I was overdoing my tendency to tell Lostshows "You've missed a bit there." when I can only marvel at the effort that's gone into the listings.Any further information is welcome,of course. When I read your original post I had a moment of panic because I'd taped over a Celebrity charity match!

When I read your original post I had a moment of panic because I'd taped over a Celebrity charity match! It's not just me who has attempted and failed to find material from ITV. Tottenham Hotspur's Official 30th Anniversary DVD, to commemorate their 1972 UEFA Cup Final, only contains the 1st leg, broadcast by BBC, because only 5 minutes remain from the 2nd leg broadcast by Thames (I would assume). www.amazon.co.uk/Spurs-1972-UEFA-Cup-Final/dp/B005I4Q9QC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342367167&sr=8-1

Have you gone through the Unionsearch site? I tried searches for 'fc' (1392 results),Tottenham (400-odd,though that includes local news items)...and UEFA (nil). What does UEFA stand for, again?
