It's documented on here that I and others have HARANGUED various people at the BEEB about archive footage with a small amount of success.
So what of ITV?
They have a huge archive, but precious little ever gets shown - and FOUR channels, just like the Beeb.
It's time to attack the sleeping giant....
Any contacts you can think that would deserve my attention, please let me know by PM or here. ;D

Thank you for that Paul.
I find it ironic that the Beeb - who don't get me wrong are far from perfect, but at least do listen - get hassle all the time, but there is much great music within ITN Source that we never get to see!
Even if it was 10% as good as the Beeb, they still don't even get 10% of the attention.

Judging by Keith Badman's page in Record Collector, loads of shows and stuff are still in ITV archives around the country, but will they ever get shown again?
Not until they set up a BBC4 type channel. ITV4 could do it, but they prefer showing Sweeney / Professionals / Batman type stuff ad infinitum. OK, they did do "The Prisoner", but it's more or less like someone that has an extensive collection of old DVD box sets, really.

Of course the old Granada + use to show stuff from the archive, I remember them showing "Marc" Supersonic" Doin' Their Thing" and "Shang-a- Lang" a few years ago. So it looks like they did include music items in their programming but decided to change policy when they set up ITV 1,2,3 & 4

I'd be happy if they put ANYTHING out on TV from the archives, musically speaking. pretty much nothing since Granada Plus. I hereby offer myself as archive consultant if anyone at ITV's watching....

There's a bit of movement on the ITV front already. CAN'T AND WON'T divulge details (SORRY), but two people have contacted me and....looks good ;D (!!!!), but we wait....these things take time.

straight from the horse's mouth - I'd be in contact with ITV about a series totally devoted to ITV archive for a few weeks, which Ray knew about, but just had this response:
"We do very little archive based content and all we DO do is generally a spin-off of something current ie The Corrie years, The Betty Driver Story. The other problem is that, aside from the big entertainment shows, music (and in particular archive driven content) is rather specialist and therefore not suited to a broad mainstream ITV1 audience. Finally, notwithstanding the points above, there is nothing substantial to hook a series like this on/around. Even something as big as the death of Amy Winehouse only found a home on ITV2, rather than ITV1, last year. So it would be almost impossible to convince my bosses that this idea could fine space on ITV1."
No surprises really - ITV are all about the profit & loss account and viewer numbers & breakdown, the fact that the BBC can do archive programmes is a combination of always being one organisation with a recognised heritage abd being a public service broadcaster.
Maybe things will change - I know there's a re-branding of the ITV digital channels coming up - maybe one day they will have the ITV ARCHIVE channel...
