I second that Rich.
I don't want to sound like an anarchist - but I have a lot of odd views on things (I'm told), and if I ever had the means to purchase a lot of missing footage, what I would do is copy it, give away free copies (note, NOT sell), put it on youtube, and give copies to the broadcaster, any archive with a claim, the BFI and also the original and copies to Kal.
One day...........

That is BRILLIANT!!!!!
So good to see an early Abba performance. The recording seems in remarkable condition apart from the wonky line at the beginning and running along the bottom of the picture throughout the performance. Can this be restored?
Well done to all the Abba fans for getting this clip recovered and making it available to see. It would make a brilliant addition to TOTP2 in the same way as the recently recovered Bowie clip.

Excellent stuff - that arrangment does the recorded version no justice at all however. In hindsight it's always mystified me how a single as good as 'So Long' flopped in the UK but perhaps seeing the TOTP version fills in some of the blanks for me....

There's a second upload on TOTP; this one has a logo added but it's 480p so might be fractionally better quality: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFYcbKoztz0Not sure how I feel about all this. It's really great to finally see this, and it proves that these clips can actually be obtained if people stump up the cash (which I had doubts about before based on previous discussions of the sellers and their methods.) And my thanks to the people from abbaontv.com who put their money where their mouths are and helped fund this. But - and it's a rather big 'but' - it does rather set a precedent now this has been done.

I also have mixed feelings - I advised Sara not to deal with the sellers because I was concerned about the precedent it set.
On the other hand, a member of this forum of the trading persuasion held a copy which they were unwilling to return to the BBC. They had been seeking access to broadcast quality material in exchange for its return. I tried my best to put Sara in touch with that person but they clearly weren't interested.

If you read about this clips recovery on the Abba website they mention that 2 other people had copies of this clip but one didnt reply and the other only wanted to trade.

All I want to say is I spoke to a lot of people about this clip, some on the Forum (all great people), some on email and other bits of the internet (mainly likewise), and also some who stated they owned it and encouraged them to part with it, to....varying responses. Now it's out there. That I'm pleased about, even if my part in the process was about 0.1%!!!!!!!!!!!

i hope they will be generous enough to let Kal or the BBC have a copy I wouldn't worry on that front. The purchaser wants to return the material to the BBC and has sought my advice on doing so. I pointed her to Kal who would have the most experience of doing such things.

The two people who owned the clip previously responded in very different ways, that's all I can say.

Hmmm so it it the case that a lot of these PVL clips are in the posession of multiple people, or was the ABBA clip unique in that respect? I'd assumed that none of these performances were in circulation since I'd seen no evidence of it. But this raises the possibility that some of the other clips are owned by mutliple people too. Although I guess if they're unwilling to share or return to the BBC then it amounts to the same thing really.
But how did these other people get them? Did they do their own private cash deal with the PVL guys?

According to the Abba on TV site this clip was never broadcast because of a strike - possibly the reason it was never a hit. If it was never broadcast how then did the seller get it?

Obviously that can't be true otherwise it wouldn't have been recorded in the first place as this is an off-air home recording. Somebody's got their facts wrong on this.
