Saturday's is just as bad as the previous two "SPECIALS"
Episode 3 of 3, TOTP2, The 60s
Duration: 30 minutes
A compilation of some of the BBC's rare 60s archive hits by the likes of The Walker Brothers, Lulu, The Kinks and Don Partridge. Plus more from Top of the Pops and other shows from the time.
Producer Sam Bridger, Well Sam if your'e reading this you've made a right cock up of TOTP2 so far hope you learn for the 70's "SPECIAL" or will that be more of the bleedin same stuff? Leave Starman on the blinking shelf for a change.

BBC Complaints:
TOTP2, The 60s A compilation of some of the BBC's rare 60s archive.
It say's "RARE" Archive not footage that has been seen too many times on BBC progs such as TOTP2 Sounds of The 60's.
Why are veiwers being treated to the same old clips seen loads of times before, when there's over 375 "RARE" 60's clips in the Archives that have never been re-tx'd.
For far too long TOTP2 has remained stagnant predictable and boring.
After all the whooo arrrr and publicity in December 2011 featuring former Cameraman John Henshall's superb footage of the long since wiped David Bowie "Jean Genie" TOTP2 comes up with the 60's "SPECIALS" nothing special about it at all.
The 3 progs of TOTP2 the 60's are a total waste of air time & production costs, BBC you might just as well of re-run sounds of the 60's.
If you want to keep hold of viewers for the 70's "SPECIALS" please show the viewer something different, I'm pretty sure if I can find stuff in the archives (BBC MG) that's never been seen since first tx so can the researchers and producer of TOTP2.
This "SPECIAL" series has been a complete washout with boring gaphics boring selections pretty useless.
Hope the TOTP2 office will now listen to the viewers regarding the selection of footage

I think I've just found it - Clodagh appeared on Dee Time on 26 July 1969, so it's almost certainly that show. Colin. Ha, great, I was watching it thinking I'd seen a clip very like it from 'Dee Time', and was going to check..but then the caption came up on screen about it being from 'Cilla'! So I was right, I foolishly imagined they knew what they were talking about. Silly me.

The BBC already have a list of suggestions from me (I gave them a list of almost every 'unseen since broadcast' TOTP performance that exists), and in addition to this, you might like to forward me lists of any BBC performance of chart acts UNSEEN SINCE BROADCAST AND EXISTING. Appearances of performances on other pop programmes, chat shows, kids TV, whatever, but it HAS to be UNSEEN SINCE BROADCAST AND EXISTING, got it? So no 'rumoured' clips, definitely missing performances and no Starman. Trust me, this could well be a brilliant idea....I think I'll start a thread, actually....

I guess the Don Partridge performence is Blue Eyes from the existing 6/6/68 show.

The researchers on these shows want sacking, the opening caption stated that Dave Dee's legend of Xanadu was their 2nd hit when it was in fact their 9th & if you cant get right the show an internal clip came from you really shouldnt be doing the job. If they insist on putting these captions on screen during performances they should at the very least be accurate not misleading.

My aim this year is trying to get more rare clips shown on the BBC. (that's as well as my other aim of 3600 minutes of material found by Forum members....)
Trust me, I'm onside....the main thing is to try and get footage shown. I hate captions too. But the Beeb are at least knowing about some of the things that exist and they will know about more.... I will do what I can.

Same Old Same Old Std BBC reply:
Thanks for contacting us about ‘TOTP2: the 60s’ on BBC Two.
I understand you were disappointed by the choice of clips during the programme on 4 February and feel there are more unseen clips in the archives that viewers could see instead.
We’re naturally very sorry when we hear that members of our audience do not like our programmes or services. We try very hard to produce a wide range of high quality programmes and services which we hope will appeal to our audiences.
The BBC is a publicly-funded broadcaster serving the whole of the United Kingdom providing programming to a hugely diverse audience with differing tastes and preferences.
There will always be some programmes that do not appeal to some people and this is the nature of broadcasting whereby we are serving many different people with many different expectations.
We’re sorry that this particular programme was not to your own liking, so please be assured your complaint will be added to our audience log, a daily report of audience feedback that's made available to many BBC staff, including members of the BBC Executive Board, channel controllers and other senior managers.
The audience logs are seen as important documents that can help shape decisions about future programming and content.
Thanks again for taking the time to contact us.
Kind Regards

The reason I asked if you made it up was because that line-up looked more interesting and I couldn't understand why you sent a complaint to the BBC before the last programme had aired? I might be forgetting stuff but what Walker Brothers performance from the 60's exists that we've seen countless times? I can't think of anything other than the recent find of 2 takes of ' You Don't Have To Tell Me' from 21/7/66. If one of these is included on Saturdays last show it would be a real shame to complain to the BBC because as far as I'm aware we've never seen it since it first aired. Or is there another 60's Walker Brothers performance that exists that I'm overlooking? Lulu too, whilst it might and probably will be from Pop Go The Sixties, it could also be 'Boom Bang A Bang' from the recovered 1969 episode so it just seems a little premature to complain.

Guys, I will try my very best to persuade the BBC get things either rare or unseen since original broadcast shown on TOTP2, but that's something I'm doing NEXT month.

Hmm. Gary's reply from the BBC didn't even directly address the issue of there being more interesting or rarely seen clips. It just went on for several paragraphs to expressing sorrow that he didn't like what had been shown (which would have been already clearly expressed in his initial communication anyway)! Very complacent reply, it has to be said.
