Doctor Who News says that Airlock is still in the process of being restored. I thought the two episodes had been restored already and were shown at a screening. Is there still touch up work to do with Airlock? It's probably nothing more than a case of them being very general, rather than their saying "oh, it's fully restored" and facing a barrage of questions of if so, why it hasn't been released yet. BTW, it's Air Lock (two words)! ;-)

Only the start of Air Lock was shown at the NFT showing so perhaps that was the part in best condition and needed less work, the rest still being restored.

Actually the reason why only the first part was shown at the Missing Believed Wiped event was that there was only a half an hour slot saved for Doctor Who. This slot was saved when The Underwater Menace: Episode 2 was returned and it was only later that Air Lock was handed back to the BBC.
However both episodes have been shown in full as they were shown at the Chapters Art Centre in Cardiff on 9th May 2012 but this was before all of the restoration work. As well as the last 30 seconds needing work to reconstruct missing footage you have to remember that this is an old and dusty film that needs a lot of work to clean up all the marks on it and then will have to be VidFired. We've only got to wait till summer to see it and we've got The Reign Of Terror animation in the meantime (which looks brilliant).

Airlock came back first and that's when we agreed the 30 minute slot with the BFi. But then 'The Underwater Menace' came back and Dick Fiddy suggested a 5 minute clip of one and a complete episode to fill the time. I decided on 'The Underwater Menace' which I think was the right decision. Paul

Considering that the Airlock episode was missing the final part of that episode and there are so few Troughton episodes in existence, The Underwater Menace 2 was the obvious choice. It's too bad nothing else has been found. If you had three or four classic episodes from different stories turn up and had only enough time to show one of them, that kind of decision would be an interesting one to consider.

I agree Andrew that around two years is a long time but I think it will be great to see it in it's full glory for the first time without the restoration seeming rushed or if it being put on just a random release.

I really don't mind how long they sit on it as long as they do a great job upon release.
I wonder how much a Galaxy 4 with animated episodes would cost? I'd pay stupid money for high quality animation and the chance to see a recently discovered episode. I'd personally like to see all the missing episode animated so I could have all the DVD's nicely lined up on my shelf. I doubt that'd happen though. Not unless I win the Euromillions and make a hefty donation!

Just read the Wiki page for "The Reign of Terror", to see if it mentioned anything about the release date (just for future reference, I am a big fan of these animations), and this is what it said;
"The full serial is due to be released on DVD in 2013 as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the series, with the two missing episodes restored through animation. Original cast members William Russell and Carole Ann Ford reprised their roles, alongside a guest cast"
Why would there be any need for a "guest cast"? Surely they could just overdub the TV soundtrack that was recorded off-air? Can anyone shed any light on this?

It's the reason why you shouldn't believe the tripe that gets written on Wikipedia!

Its basically just apx 2 1/2 episodes that need to be animated as we have a full episode along with a significant clip from episode 1. At the moment I believe its more likely that they will focus on stories where just two or less episodes are missing, but since its only a little more than two episodes it would be nice if they were tempted to attempt it. However, I wouldn't expect it in the near future. I really don't mind how long they sit on it as long as they do a great job upon release. Sound like whomever wrote that confused THE REIGN OF TERROR with the "reconstruction of the complete Episodes #3 and #4 of PLANET OF THE GIANTS
