Welcome back Ray.
I was fortunate enough to attend the BFI last night and it was a great clip especially as it was performed live on TOTP.
In my opinion the live version had more of an edge to it than the released single.
My thanks to all concerned on the recovery of a classic TOTP clip.

Newly registered, but a long-time lurker. Was at the BFI last night. The Bowie footage was spine tingling. Beforehand, who did John Henshall say was going round to his storage facility next Sunday to look through his tapes? Surely he could have an absolute treasure trove of lost TOTP stuff in there?

Beforehand, who did John Henshall say was going round to his storage facility next Sunday to look through his tapes? John said Chris Perry (from Kaleidoscope) would be going with him to his lock-up next week to sort through his other tapes. Hopefully, we'll see John again at another Missing Believed Wiped event in the near future, showing some more highlights from the tapes that Chris and his team will be digitizing. A big thanks to John for sticking around to meet us all afterwards!

Nice Article Indeed. However, was a bit disheartening reading no mention of Ray's work in sourcing this material? Would have thought they would be wanting the FULL story here in regards to this recovery? Just strikes me as rather odd all in all?
Looking forward to Tales from Television Center on BBC4 this next year, should be fun!! I wonder if they will show the full clip, or just a segment for inclusion in the documentary? Just curious there is all!
Cheers, Lance.

It has been mentioned previously Lance that it will be a clip only in the show but the 'Full' version with the right aspect ratio etc,etc will be available to view on the 'Red Button'.

I'm not too bothered about not getting mentioned - it's John's footage after all, and it's great that the footage has been recovered plus the other stuff John has is going to be too. The more recognition John can get the better! He's been an unsung hero in TV all these years. ;D

Radcliffe & Maconie just mentioned the Bowie clip on their music news feature.
I emailed them about it last week but they just ignored me. I was surprised as Mark is a big Bowie fan.

Ah, thesedays they get everything filtered through by Work Experience takeups.
Back in the day, you could actually get straight through to John Peel in the studio if you tried. (I did, once)

True, they probably didn't think it was worth passing on to them. Neither of them sounded particularly excited by it today I must admit!
Marc Riley on the other hand was very interested and has mentioned it at least once on his show.

I met John Henshall on Sunday night as I'm sure you all know from my posts over the past few days. I know he was passionate about the first airing being on a BBC documentary in the New Year. John had arranged for the footage to be available freely via the red button in the correct aspect and without any annoying onscreen captions. I built up a rapport with him on Sunday as we realised we'd worked together briefly back in the mid 80's without even realising it so felt duty bound to alert him of this footage on youtube. I wish I hadn't told him but he'd have found out sooner or later. He's livid and sent me this email and asked me to pass it on.
Dear Mike
Thank you for alerting me about this.
Those at the event were specifically told by Dick Fiddy not to record anything as it could prejudice any future "Missing Believed Wiped" event.
There was no chance that anyone there did not hear this warning.
As a result of "diehouseofdolls" posting it on YouTube, I have now decided that that is the only version which will ever be seen. I think it best to destroy the master tape. Clearly people are just not to be trusted.
Bowie fans should enjoy the YouTube version and thank "diehouseofdolls" for this.
And maybe do to him what Jeremy Clarkson said should happen to strikers a couple of weeks ago?
Please feel free to share this.
Best regards John
