I have the tail end of one of these on a tape somebody copied me. It was shown as part of an ATV weekend on Channel 4 in the late 80s.
However it was clearly an NTSC copy.
Are they all NTSC only? Whichever ones are, are they conversions, or are these shows that ATV famously made in native NTSC at Elstree at the time, something they did for quite a few productions where the American market was considered more important?

you could be right as these looked distinctly fuggy even when they were first shown around 1971.

Fuggy?!? Yes, I recall these on first screening too (10.30pm or thereabouts on a Friday evening in the London area, preceding the first repeat of The Prisoner and after Budgie, which was at 9pm - what an evening to stay in!!). Thinking about it, they did look rather smeary then (as did quite a few ATV VT shows then) so it's POSSIBLE they were made in NTSC, although I son't think so.
That compilation edition transmitted by Ch.4 in the '80s was particularly washed out though. Possibly a distribution dub (the first copy they managed to drag off the shelf maybe)?

oh god yes! i remember that friday night line up. Probably introduced by Peter Lewis in front of some nice wood panelling? I maybe wrong now but i think there was some dispute going on between LWT and ATV . LWT use to bung all ATV's first run stuff ie Marty Feldman well out of peak hours.

Yes. Solid, professional Peter Lewis and his wood panelling! ATV London used a similar backdrop in their franchise era (up to 1968) too.
It was such a strong Friday evening line-up on LWT in 1971 though: the whole evening was courtesy of ITV (I couldn't even CONCEIVE of that nowadays). There was also The Fenn Street Gang at 8.30 too.
So it was:
8.30 The Fenn Street Gang 9.00 Budgie 10.00 News At Ten 10.30 Marty Feldman Comedy Machine 11.30 The Prisoner
These kind of Friday evenings were a real feature at that time. In that Friday 9pm slot you also had Manhunt (1970) and Spyder's Web (1972 - which I think came either prior to, or as a replacement for, the second series of Budgie) amonst others.
You're lucky if you get more than one or two programmes to watch in any single evening from all the channels conbined nowadays!

1971? In that case, wouldn't the earlier part of that same evenings' schedule have included 'The Sky's The Limit' with Hughie Green? Anyone know if any of those are still around? I can recall the theme to it but no clips ever seem to turn up to represent the series in retrospectives. Another one of the same ilk and period being 'Wheel Of Fortune' with Michael Miles (ex-'Take Your Pick'). Again, never seen a clip since.

Harry 'wheel of fortune' would be a good find for a couple of good reasons .1 it was the comeback series for Michael Miles after being left in the wilderness after the demise of Rediffusion. 2. it is probably the only colour footage of Michael Miles 3. Michael Miles went to that great game show in the sky in 1970 so these were his last TV appearances.
Alas the series was made by Southern TV so finding it would be very difficult even it does still exist.

A few clips (inclucing the titles) and from TX quailty prints turned up on "The Real Hughie Green" on C4 last year. What a nasty little git he was!!

I too remember these shows. Glad there is at least something of The Sky's The Limit - wasn't this Yorkshire? Surprised that R.Murdoch hasn't revived the show as a flagship series to promote himself (I know, even in jest...!)
Didn't know Wheel Of Fortune was Southern though (or i'd forgotten at least). I remember it was quite similar to Take Your Pick in format though but if Southern made it then that reduces drastically the chances of any of that turning up I suppose...

I've never ever ever seen anything from this.
Would be fascinating to see - maybe one survives?

dont take my word for it that it was a 'southern' production . I just feel it was but could be wrong. I think it was more or less the same format as the recent one with John Leslie. OT,. Michael Miles was alledged to be a right grumpy sour puss and nothing like his tv personality. Might explain why the major networks dropped him when they could?

I can confirm the original Wheel of Fortune was made by Southern Television and the Sky's the Limit was made by Yorkshire Television.
