Whilst going through the threads, I found this one, what is the latest update on Mr Monkhouse`s collection?

The film content of Bob Monkhouse's collection has been assessed now by representatives of the NFTVA - there are some TV titles in it, but it is the movie content which is of most interest. I'm sure an announcement will be made in due course. The tape archive (which may contain some fascinatiiong TV material) is still awaiting assesment, this is largely because Bob's widow has continued the family tradition of wintering outside the UK. Hopefully the tapes will start to be looked at at the end of April/beginning of May.

What VT formats did Bob record on Dick and how many recordings are we looking at here?

The rumour I heard was that the BFI had messed up negotiations so it was dead in the water. Shame.

Still waiting to hear about this one myself too. Be good if we were given an update one way or the other at some stage.

Was Mad Movies drawn from Monkhouse's own collection? By sheer coincidence I met a lady who used to work for him through the local Who club.

Tell more , more gossip please ;D was he nice/nasty whatever? He use to have an office in Hayes. Yes the Mad Movies were drawn from his own collection, but probably used Bob's encyclopedic knowledge of film to source from elsewhere as well?. It introduced pre 1930 silent films to a new audience. IIRC a well researched, amusing programme with plenty of interesting locations. Credit must also go to his assistant and future wife Jaqui, who worked on the programme. Her claim to fame was playing the German Girl in 'Mind your Language' IIRC The BBC copied later with 'the Golden Silence'.

It was quite sad--I handed her a copy of the club newsletter, and she saw a picture of Monkhouse's face on it. Then I get to tell her it was an obituary...

I seem to think 'mad movies' was 1965 - 66 copyright date. Think I read this somewhere but it was in mid swing around 1967. Unlike Bobs 'Candid Cameras' it was shot on film stock. I seem to recall it ended in 1968, but one of the channels ran a similar series called 'GOLDEN SILENTS'.
Regarding the science fiction comments. The only I remember being used in that line was the Buster Keaton; (I think); film 'The Electric house'. This was the one where a white sheet gets blown onto a hoover which switches itself on and someone; I think Ben Turpin and Keaton think its a ghost.
Collector Mick Hall told me c. 1990 one of his friends had made reference to a clip from 'The Evil of the Daleks' being used on an ITV programme around 1968; but thought it was in the childrens magazine programme 'Tickertape'. I recall watching this show and think it was presented by Bernard Bresslaw. It was an ITV company, I think London Weekend.
What was the 'Evil of the Daleks' clip seen? Sorry if this has been mentioned already here.
Maybe it was on an ITV show but 'Golden silents' or 'Tickertape'?
