To John Miller - your sighting of the last ever Shot is very intruiging - where did you see this, and was it from a TR or on colour tape?

Very interesting stuff, Dubs. Do we know if the 9/9/67 edition definitely exists then? I hadn't heard about an off-air of this one before. Presumably that July edition is a regional edition only (if I recall, we only got the show in the London area from the Autumn onwards).
There was reference to a cache of Monkhouse-held editions at the NFT, although the actual number involved has been variously 12, 15 and 18 shows. I wonder if these will eventually see daylight and which actual shows they are!

Wasn't it an ATV London production Laurence?
The 9/9/67 edition - whats the chances that Monkhouse kept this for himself - seeing as it was 1) His first guest appearance 2) Led to him getting the show later ?

It definitely was shot at Borehamwood for a while early on, later moving to Birmingham. I was under the impression that it started with the Autumn season (around September was usually when the season started) in London though (does anyone have a London TV Times to check when the first one was?) I think I recall from somewhere that it was initially regional before that - can anyone confirm this? I could be wrong. Maybe the supposed July edition is actually a little later, despite the topical music references? Even so, the Herts studios could still have been used for any of their shows, wherever they were screened, in theory.

My contact who researched the TV Times for I think the London area gave me these dates Laurence:
Rae: 8/7/67 to 7/10/67 (Saturdays)
Monkhouse: 14/10/67 to 30/12/67 (Sats), then change to Suns for the rest of the run - 7/1/68 to 28/7/68, then a break - then 12/1/69 to 30/1/72 - co-host with Vaughan.
(6/12/70 - Pete Murray)
Vaughan: 6/2/72 to 15/7/73.
Williams: 16/9/73 to 31/3/74.
Monkhouse: 14/7/74 to 13/4/75.
The only dates I've been able to confirm there was no transmissions for are 27/12/70 and 30/4/75 (Easter Sunday).
Other probable dates for Christmas could be :
23 & 30/12/67 26/12/71 24 & 31/12/72 30/12/73 29/12/74
no doubt the run broke for other events, or maybe strike actions etc.

Very interesting thread....so what is the up-date on Mr Fiddys reserch?... Last time I spoke to Dick, they were still awaiting the delivery of quite a bit of the collection. He did, however, say that most of it was film rather than VT.

And was that film mainly cinema film as opposed to TV material? I was just wondering.

That's what Dick Fiddy will find out when he sees the collection!

here in new zealand in the early 70s i can recall seeing an episode of mad movies which featured clips from fireball xl5 and Daleks......! (possibly the trains sequence from evil....
my memory is it was somewhat sf themed so if it still survies in the collection it would be interesting to see if my memory is cheating or not..

I think that all of Mad Movies survives, doesn't it? I think we have to rely on Mr Monkhouse for that Louis. I knew someone who remembers many mad movies transmission prints going for 'recycling', which either meant they were turned into goo for other products, or ended up in other film editor's baskets as scraps for spacing/splicing etc.

I have no info. on whether later editions were made - but online checks suggest the series was compiled in 1965 for broadcast in 1966 - predating "evil of the daleks" even if it did feature any tv clips.
