Hi people
This is definitely a lost area of television with many gems now deleted.
The good news is that our June event is turning into an absolute corker.
Our guests continue to grow, we have another 2 to announce shortly, and between them we have tracked down over 20 discs of previously lost footage.
Today I was told that we have an audio reel of 1960s ATV announcer Norman Tozer including a Diana Dors interview.
Maurice Kanarek's 16mm material has arrived and it's even more extensive than I thought.
All in all a cracking event, and Wes Smith will host a panel for use on Central News.
This is a one-off event a bit different from us, once it's gone it won't be repeated so I urge you all to come along.

Christopher, perhaps you could tell me if there is any continuity footage of an announcer named Jon Kelley who worked for Rediffusion and Tyne Tees.
He later turned to acting, appearing in the Gerry Anderson productions Doppelganger (aka Journey to the Far Side of the Sun) and UFO.
Many Thanks Ian

Many thanks, it's good to know that someting still exists from his earlier career - if only I could find the man himself!

Sadly, Jon Kelley died many years ago. Some in-vision continuity of him would be something guaranteed to get me to the event as his Rediffusion presentation was a very big part of my early TV experience - if only I was free on that day! Damn...

There was an audio doing the rounds, of AR's last night close down minutes between Redvers and Jon, the weather man who's name escapes me (I recalled as a nice old bloke looked ex military) says goodbye too.
The tape sounded as if it was paused for the weather fourcast, which I could quite understand at the time having a tape recorder myself but would have been nice to have now.

Yes, i'm told this was an off-mike recording made for Redvers Kyle (i.e. internal and not from transmission). Can anyone confirm this? The Kaleidoscope screening sounds VERY interesting though as it'll be the very first visual recording of in-vision Rediffusion continuity i've ever heard of (there are a few brief fragments of visual continuity of clocks / captions etc. but not the actual anouncers in vision). I really would love to see this!

I checked this with Kaleidoscope. The Rediffusion links they have are from CV2000 off air material surrounding the 1966/67 'Tarbuck's Back' recordings.
I am told that it is not invision, but static Rediffusion captions with voice over.
Unless I am wrong, Rediffusion only had invision announcements for children's programming.

Thanks for checking this, Simon. Even if not in-vision, this is a valuable find (as is any Rediffusion continuity) to add to the existing small amount. Is it just one item (from one tx) and do you know the rough date for this?
From personal memory, Rediffusion did have in-vision continuity at times other than between children's programmes (which is probably when a lot of people experienced it). It seemed to happen only at certain junctions though; often first thing after opening up, sometimes before or after the news, at the start of peak time evening viewing, before daytime programming (such as racing), late night etc. You couldn't always predict exactly when it would occur.
In the later years though (1967-68), in-vision was getting less common and continuity was taking more short cuts (often by this time they would just use a caption or "still" of the Rediffusion logo (whereas up to around 1966 they used the full revolving version as an accompaniment to a voice-over). As most of the existing recordings are from this later period, it probably explains why not much (any?) in-vision has surfaced so far. Going by some of the surprising items that have surfaced against the odds over time though, i'm always confident there's always a possibility of some more stuff being out there!

Thank you Stephen - Lawrie West yes I remember now.
--------------------------------------
I seen to recall Muriel in vision during the take your pick -avengers bit
---------------------------------------------
I have just put my anorak on and found the last minutes of Rediffusion on audio.
I also have a small realplayer video of the Rediffusion afternoon start up . The video is small but that does not really matter as its only a couple of captions and the VT is a bit wobbly but the music is still rousing.
If anyone is interested in these I can upload them and can sort out a link here for you to download. The audio one is MP3 but you will need Realplayer for the other one.

Hi Laurence
The tx dates of Tarbucks Back are in our books or on Lost Shows, circa 1968.
So who is coming to this event?
We have assembled a huge line-up of guests, and numerous 35mm negs have been transferred. We have the 1969 Granada network idents for Christmas that were used by the network amongst other rarities.
But who is coming? I've had lots of regulars drop out coz it's not their scene, so I hope we have an audience lol.
Sad you can't make it Laurence. We pitch events at hard-core fans like you and yet you never get to any of the events. Raiders 2007 was the last time we saw you :-(
Are you coming to Bob's Full House?

Hi Chris,
I'm a relative newbie to the hobby, but do enjoy collecting old bits of continuity mainly from the 70s & 80s on old N1500/1700 tapes. I'd love to come to the event but I'm away with the family on holiday. One of these days I'll make it to one of your events, but they always seem to drop on weekends I cant make.....hey ho its just how the cookie crumbles I guess!
Chris.

No probs Chris, but to help you plan for the future...
We always meet first Saturday of March, June, September, December. We've been doing that since 2005 and will carry on until either a) we drop dead or b) we raise no money for the RNLI. Indeed b could happen at this event by the sounds of it lol.
The Bafta events are end of October but they are specials, not every year.

I was REALLY hoping to get to June's event (for obvious reasons) but it just wasn't possible. The events are great and full of really interesting stuff to me but some of us just don't have very flexible work patterns. I did get to the BAFTA / Raiders event two years ago though!
