Old fave of mine when I used to post on here a while ago - whats the newest programme that is missing? I had great fun a few months / years! ago when I found some audio recordings only to discover after much work they existed!

It depends on what type of programme you are asking about. There were live things going out in the '80 / '90s that probably were never recorded in the first place (e.g. magazine programmes, links, regional news & weather etc.) With drama and comedy, it would probably be something in the late '70s / early '80s. Some early stuff from this period was junked in the '90s (such as some of Take Hart) and other things are missing episodes (e.g. The Adventure Game). Things like Swap Shop / Superstore have missing editions.
If you are talking about drama, I suppose some of ATV's final productions from the '81 / '82 era are some of the later missing items as they were pretty bad at retention all along. Southern's soap "Together" (?) from 1980 / 81 is missing it's second series as it went out live, I think. Probably some missing STV soap stuff goes into the '80s as well. In fact, a lot of the last material made by those ITV franchise holders that bit the dust at that point (e.g. Westward) must have loads of missing stuff of all genres. So there must be much more...
It's a good question though: does anyone know what the most recent missing drama is? My guess is it's something from the first half of the '80s.

What about material made for BSB by various production companies? that would be late 1980s...

Yes - totally forgot about that! Most of the BSB-originated programming (circa 1990-91) has been junked, with very few exceptions (e.g. Jupiter Moon). That's probably the most recent.

Speaking as the person who marked up & numbered all of Noel Gay's safety dubs, I would like to think they're still around somewhere...

You did?!? Sadly, I was reliably informed only last year that the Noel Gay stuff has gone; particularly sad about I Love Keith Allen.

Yep, all gone the same way as the rest, I fear. There will be some off-air recordings out there though, I expect.

Four Corners (Australia) tonight had WTC conspiracists nominating the BBC's predictive announcement of WTC 7 collapsing and the loss of tapes showing they'd said this (since found) demonstrating complicity in the conspiracy.
The tinfoil hat brigade have to get in in line if they want to prove anything with the Beeb making a mistake and loosing tapes!

Ah yes, these "lost tapes"? www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/theeditors/mike_rudin/"The mystery of the missing tapes didn't last that long. One very experienced film librarian kindly agreed to have another look for us one night. There are more than a quarter of a million tapes just in the Fast Store basement at Television Centre. The next morning I got a call to say the tapes had been found. They'd just been put back on the wrong shelf - 2002 rather than 2001. Not so sinister after all."

Can someone clarify this for me, I think I might have my wires crossed on this one. Noel gay, didnt he used to produce some variety type shows that were re-edited back into, well variety shows , and broadcast on BSB? I used to get free tickets to see these being filmed live and they featured really early appearances by people like Vic Reeves and I recall a guy playing jazz bagpipes I think on one evening. Were these junked??? There is a slim chance I might be able to try and get hold of some VHS if thats the case. I might have been barking up the wrong tree with this though. Please advise!

Stuart Littlemore went to Northern Ireland and produced a report for This Day Tonight on the Troubles. When he got back to Australia, the Northern Irish editor who'd received the cans blithely asked "Did you want to keep that stuff?"--he'd disapproved and destroyed all the footage. That, however, was not a conspiracy as it only involved one person.
This was the same trip which ended with him being attacked by the cameraman as the plane was about to land and then demoted by Talbot Duckmanton, the ABC Managing Director. Sounds great.

Noel Gay TV, under Paul Jackson, got the Entertainment commission for BSkyB which included amongst other "La Triviata" with Jo Brooks & Nick Hancock, "Up Yer News" which was a daily news comedy show with different hosts each night, "I love Keith Allen" with ... er... Keith Allen, "The Happening" was a variety-type show which NGTV recorded every week at the Astoria which included almost everyone around on the circuit at that time. There was also a weekly music show (hosted by Jools Holland) and a comedy show that were also recorded at the Astoria. And who can forget the sitcom "Heil Honey, I'm Home" which was made for BSkyB at Pinewood but only the original pilot was ever broadcast and that was on Channel 4 as part of a Bad Taste weekend!

The happening! That sounds like the show im thinking of. I used to watch this getting filmed most weeks. Is the archival status of this dodgy does anyone know?
I did hear that the rest of the series of heil honey im home was recorded, but shelved before broadcast, for some reason or other, ho ho!

If you check earlier in this thread, you'll see I mention that The Happening (along with all Noel Gay stuff) seems to be junked!
