...a well known hoaxer who has, over the years, claimed to have every known missing episode this side of the Horsehead Nebula.

Not sure but you could ask Ian Levine. I understand he has had some adverse contact with this individual...

It's all very well banging on about all these missing episodes but the most important thing that people have overlooked is that when the BBC, STUPIDLY, cleared out it's vault in the 70's and 80's they burnt a hellava lot of whole doctor who stories that were still on 16mm film so unfortuneately a lot of these missing episodes will be missing for ever. Sorry to rain on your parade out there but i have dedicated the last 15 or so years of my life to finding some of these episodes and fould a few in the most unlikely of places, but we have got to get over the fact that some will never be seen again.

I think most people accept that, of the 108 missing episodes, the majority are lost for good. I'm hopeful of some more turning up, but we're talking a handful. Like many TV shows, 'Doctor Who' fell victim to BBC policy of the 1960s and 1970s. To be honest, I'm grateful that anything from the 60s survived.

I know weve been here before, but employees who took stuff home rather than skip it are far more likely to have taken juicy stuff that was very poplular at that time. So if a member of staff was presented with the oppurtunity to take home/ walk off with some 16mm cookery programs or some Dr Who, I think the latter more likely tbh. Even if they only wanted to sell it on its still a safer bet I think. Where stuff eventually ended up is anyones guess................ But I sincerely reckon there is much more to be recovered yet.

I wish I shared your optimism. Nearly 30 years have passed since the BBC's 'Who' purge came to an end. The majority of recoveries were made back in the 1980s, I believe. In the past 15 years, only two episodes have been found. If there are former BBC employees with missing episodes, they're in no rush to tell anyone. I know Francis Watson waited 32 years before returning 'Day of Armageddon', but there's no guarantee that anyone else in his position would follow suit.

Well, there was the chap who clung on to his episode of A for Andromeda for a good few decades........... In that case he was fully aware of what he was holding. Who knows, he may not be the only cast from that mould. But I know this is a fairly circular argument! Im certain i'll see a few more Troughtons before my days are done.

The fact is and one which we talked about on this thread as far back as May is that if any future episodes turn up they will like DMP2 in January 2004 turn up totally out of the blue. No one knows if 12, 6 or zero missing episodes exist. Its really sad and frustrating but we just have to wait I suppose. I like to stay positive and think that at least 6 are out there but thats not based on fact, just hope........ and where theres life theres hope.

Yeah I agree Chris. No one really knows for certain whats lurking out there, who knows where! So its best to keep a positive attitude about the chances for recovery!
