Hello All,
I was watching my copy of Ambassadors of Death the other day, and was thinking that it would make an exellent candidate for a DVD release. Would too much work be required to recolorize the remaining material for a DVD release? This story is great, and would be fantastic to see on DVD. Anyone have any ideas or comments ?
Lance.

I would love to see it fully in color but I think it would still cost way too much at the moment. I know James Insell has some ideas about how to restore color from the b&w recordings and I think has mentioned it may one day be possible on Ambassadors and Mind of Evil but would be a long way off.

The Daemons would be my first choice for recolored stories. I'd love to see this vid-fired!

Well, considering that it was too much work to recolourise it for the VHS release (which wasn't all that long ago), and there are plenty of equally plodding Pertwee stories with colour intact that could be released first, I'd file it under "U" for "unlikely".

I'm all for a release of Ambassadors too.I love the whole of Pertwee's first season as it has an atmosphere all its own.Everything was played for more adult realism but later seasons got more cosy.Ambassadoers seems to really sum up that whole time of the first moon landings very well.I think that story will be a long time coming though it will be worth it when they can present it in full colour. In the meantime,The Daemons and The Silurians are my next choices for Pertwee after Inferno.

My first three Pertwee picks would be "The Daemons", "The Monster of Peladon", "The Time Monster" (If only for the scene where the Master makes the Doctor talk gibberish! )

"Frontier in Space" would be good. Or "The Day of the Daleks" (how'd I forget that one?) Actually, "Frontier would be good packaged with "Planet of the Daleks", but there's the problem with the rogue b&w episode.

Yeah, hopefully they will wait on the four stories with b&w episodes until something could be done with them. Out of curiosity does anyone know if colorization has been used on anything that was originally in color to restore it? Not talking about the Doctor Who stories that have been recolored but full colorization from scratch. I mean the entire first seasons of Gilligan, I dream of Jennie and the first two seasons of Bewitched that were made in black and white have been colorized but I can't think of anything that was originally in color that's been restored. Kinda sad if you think about it that way.

The Time Warrior should be the next Pertwee release, definitely. As for Ambassadors, it's my favourite DW story, so I'd love a DVD release of it. Season 7 as a whole is my pick for the single best year of the entire show. The seventh year was made for an adult audience, unlike the seasons before and many of the stories in the seasons that followed it. The general atmosphere was grim, uncompromising, stark. Superb TV.

Nah, since Ambassadors was one of the most recent VHS releases, and also because it cannot (presently) be restored to FULL colour, I'd much rather they wait a few years before doing this one. In the meantime, we can only hope that either better recordings can be found or that colourisation technology will become more practical/affordable to recolour the sections that are still monochrome.
Same goes for Invasion of the Dinos, Planet of the Daleks and Mind of Evil. I'd much rather they waited until complete colour copies are found of the B/W episodes or until the time/cost is right to recolour them. All of these were released fairly late in the VHS range anyway. There are many more stories that have been OOP for a number of years that could stand a re-release first, or in the case of Time Warrior, a story that never even got an episodic release on tape.

"The Time Warrior"? Hmmm... forgot about that one - the first DW release I ever bought (half a lifetime ago). Haven't seen the VHS in shops anywhere for the last 10 years or so...

Part of me wants Ambassadors sooner rather than later, simpy 'cos I love the story (were I to be inclined to do a top 5 stories list, it would be in it...).
However... the possibility that we could have it in full colour if its release is held off a few years makes me think it should be saved for later...
