[Damn that small room and its many hidden treasures! If only we could get in past the security guards...] I've heard this argument many times before on this forum - that foreign TV stations have rooms filled with film cans that haven't been searched etc. What a lot of people here seem to forget is that we are talking about films that were aired some 40 years ago. In that time, TV stations close down, change ownership, move premises, get demolished, get bombed. Who on this forum has moved house? You don't pack everything to take to the new house. You throw away that which you no longer have use for. Same with films. If TV stations have store rooms filled with films that have been there since the 1960s/70s, you'd think that with changes of staff, personnel, policy, procedure, moving, etc, that someone in that time - think about it - 40 years is a very long time!! - would have had a clean out! Office /storage space is a premium, and so anything not needed is chucked to make way for things that are needed. We all need to face the fact/reality that TV stations in Zambia, Rhodesia, Singapore, Outer Mongolia, are not going to have hidden stores filled with old film. Jon Interesting looking back on this post now, in light of the recovery of 9 missing episodes of Doctor Who. And all the other missing episodes from other shows. Good thing Phil didn't just use this old mentality of, 'Well, nothings there everything is burned and destroyed".

Those TV stations I name didn't and still don't have hidden stores filled with old film. So why is it in any way interesting in the wake of the events of 2013 when it's still true even ten years later? Well then, which TV stations were they with the hidden stores of old film?

Only because it conveys the impression that you believed nothing was to be found in TV stations in general. Unless of course you knew something about certain TV stations that you DIDN'T mention and weren't telling

No, it conveys that I don't think TV stations have hidden rooms filled with old film -- emphasis on the word 'hidden' -- which is, if you'd actually bothered to read the posts I was responding to in the first place (Nigel Bland's and Stuart Douglas's), was what I was commenting on.

I think we have gotten off task.
Everyone is not always been right but I'm glad Phil Morris was right in Nigeria. Some have been initially been misinterpreted but we go forward.
We all need to work together to find more episodes and rather than look at past mistakes, learn from them and go forward.

I know of no hidden rooms either. But then, they're hidden, aren't they ;-) Sorry, couldn't resist that :-) Richard

Actually, that's exactly what I thought the point was, but I wasn't quite sure, so I had to ask. Singapore and Zambia, for example, may have had rooms filled with old film, but they would not have been rooms hidden behind secret panels. If there were anything worth recovering there, it would at most only be hidden in plain sight, so to speak. That said, Phil reportedly found an episode of Sky at Night under the carpet. While not a hidden room filled with old film, that was at least a hidden space containing something of value. In other words, it turns out that it was worth showing up there and taking a peek under the carpet, as amazing as that may seem.

My overwhelming emotion connected with Phil's Omnisafari is simply one of pure gratitude! He has actually been roaming around Nigeria and elsewhere pulling up old carpeting and such on the off chance there might be something of value under there. That's just stupendous. Of course, I am also aware that others have rendered assistance also, such as Jon and Richard figuring out documents about T.I.E. and so on.
I'm delighted with what was located in Nigeria, though I'm still very curious to know what, if anything, may have been located in some of the other 39 countries Phil has said that T.I.E.A has visited. One of these days, I am sure that information will be disclosed, so I'm going to wait to find out.

I do know one thing though. Mr Morris would not be able to casually walk around nigeria (Being a westerner) This would make him an easy target for western haters ! It would not surprise me if a 3rd party did a lot of the looking ! Local people would not stick out as nigeria is very dangerous to just do the indiana jones thing ! I bet he has targets to search, and maybe a 3rd party person goes off and takes a look. It would seem logical to me as you could not imagine a WHITE MAN just walking into a building in Nigeria and looking for cans ! Utterly crazy if you want to live !!! My mate said he would NEVER go back ever !!!!!

He says that foreigners who work in Nigeria in the oil industry keep more or less to a sort of well-defended, wall-in enclosure. Going and searching the archives there is not a trivial matter.

Phil is indeed working in some very dangerous places, and will want to keep as low a profile as possible. This will no doubt be a prime reason why he'll want to avoid publicity, and indeed why it would make perfect sense for him to adopt a secretive approach whilst his search is ongoing.

One of these days, I am sure that information will be disclosed, so I'm going to wait to find out. I am equally intrigued to know what was discovered just in Jos alone besides Dr Who. Morris was in a film store that contained 11 episodes of Patrick Troughton era Dr Who. I think it is not unreasonable to assume that there is a strong likelihood that other shows of that era were represented in that archive. And that some of those programmes may also have been erased by their parent broadcasters? I think it would be very unlucky (considering the circumstances!) if only missing Dr Who had been found there.
