The site has nothing to do with missing episodes so that may be why they deleted it but then they still have the other thread started by Anthony H claiming he has watched missing episodes?
edit I see the site owner has put up an explanation for the thread dissappearing.
This should be an easy story to prove/dispel?
Anyone on here actually read this paper?

I'll believe it when:
1 - I see a copy of the ad. 2 - if the paper email me back confirming as was carried in the paper.
At the moment it's very much a vague "friend of a friend" story.
And the thing to remember is even if the ad was placed, that's no guarantee it was genuine, and if it was genuine, then chances are the prints were sold the day the ad was placed.

Here's the Beer Drinkers message: www.network54.com/Forum/message?forumid=283994&messageid=1113439934For what it's worth, I think it is another hoax, which the IP addresses (see link above) only confirms for me. It just reeks of a hoax! I would like to believe it though, but I just can't find anything hopeful in it. However, it is worth investigating. It's not as though we can afford to be too picky when it comes to leads.

Anyone know who this hoaxer is, he needs sorting out. There's me trying my hardest to trace Missing episodes and stupid hoaxers like Anthony H are making it very diffucult. I know hoaxing goes on all the time but some one official needs to clamp down on this guy, most get bored and piss off after a mouth but this guy has been on about this for two years now, a very evil hoaxer.

They're "similar". I also recall Anthony H's IP was "similar" to another hoaxer/alleged missing episode owner.
However, I'm not entirely sure what the hoax is - if the hoax is the ad itself, then did "Antothy H" post it? Or is the hoax the claim that the ad was made (and it wasn't)?
If the episodes had been from another serial, I would be more tempted to believe the story.

There is as yet no proof that there ever *was* an ad.

As a mod on the Beer Drinkers site,I can confirm that the IP address on the Andover Advertiser was the same as a certain 'Mr.Rexworthy'.The Anthony H IP address however is totally different.

Thanks Mr. Raffles. I thought it was suspicious that it had been posted at Beer Drinkers (which isn't about missing episodes and is a relatively unknown board).

So, putting the Beerdrinkers thread aside for the moment and back to the origional topic of this thread. So, does anyone know if this chap who claims to have three episodes of Marco Polo been contacted? And if so at what stage are the negotiations at? Or has Steve Roberts, at the restoration team been contacted yet? If anyone could help me out here, that would be fantastic.
Thanks,Lance.

The Beerdrinkers thread was where this tale started, so it can't be "put aside". All talk of it, including this thread, can be traced back to that first post. This is how I see it:
* - What we have is one person who said his friend saw an advert in a newspaper three weeks previously. * - There is no corroboration as to whether the advert even existed. * - No-one has tracked down a copy of the ad. * - No-one even has the text of the ad. * - The Beerdrinkers post was from the same IP as someone who has previously posted a hoax.
There's an old phrase; "if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and sounds like a duck; chances are, it's a duck..."
The only way it could be a more apparent hoax is for someone to write "I AM A HOAX" in big green letters across its forehead.

I think we can totally dismiss this advert as a hoax. Interesting that Anthony H address is different, I thought he and Rexworthy were the same person. Maybe there is a little grain of truth behind this. Anyone tried to trace this Anthony

Can you provide more info on this Ben. Which bit? I was wrong in my assumption that Anthoy H was the same person who is this hoaxer. In my post, I was wondering if the person who placed the ad was the same person who made the post on the Beer Drinkers site, but it now appears there may not have even been an ad!

I was wondering if more than one person is involved in the Polo hoax. The romour was around weeks before Anthony H posted on the beerdrinkers site, thats how the woking bit came into it. I wonder who the original source was, probally Mr Rexworthy.
