Hi All Just wondering why no-one here has mentioned the ad in the Andover Advertiser advertising 3 marco Polo films for sale. Am I missing something and this is just a prank rumour. No clue as to where or what Andover is or if this paper actually exists? Sounds a bit funny ,Andover.

I've had a good look around the Internet and found no mention of this at all anywhere! Do you have any more information? Assuming this is genuine, how would we (fandom) go about recovering the episode? I always imagine Doctor Who fans harassing sellers and making offers higher than the last through not working together! There is a rumour (almost certainly crap) that three episodes of Marco Polo would be offered for sale on eBay after the new series aired. I'll try to find a thread with more information.

Just googled and found the paper does exist. Can anyone confirm the advertisement. Apparently it was in the paper around 4 weeks ago.

Are the ads in this paper free. Or would some-one pay money to hoax?. Also wouldn't the paper have details for the advertiser. and could the paper give these details out if the BBC officially enquired about the ad.

The only question I can answer is that that the ads are not free.

I suppose that the chaps on the beer drinker site would have already checked this story out. If this does pan out to be false it just seems strange that someone would hoax through a paid paper ad. Surely there are lots of free advertising avenues they could travel down! What would they be doing? Sitting down and having a giggle everytime the phone rings without bothering to answer. I guess the world is full of strange types

If it is a hoax (and I think it probably is - would love it not to be, of course), I suspect it may be connected somehow to the Beer Drinkers site. For the past year, a poster has been claiming to know of several missing episodes existing (Marco Polo episodes, weren't they?) and then this ad which is only posted on that site!
I actually heard a week ago that an missing episode had been advertised for sale but couldn't find anymore information. I wonder if this is what it was?

Should we dismiss this as another rumour instantly or would it be worthwhile for some-one in authority to contact the paper and then officially debunk this story on this site if it turns out to be a hoax. I know I should be cynical but everytime i hear a story like this I tend to believe it to be true only to be let down time and time again

Everything is worth checking out (within reason). I'd love to hear what happens if a BBC employee officially leaves a message on the man's answer machine. If that was me and I'd been hoaxing, I'd s___ myself with surprise and embarrasment! I was hopeful that this might be real until I saw the Beer Drinkers thread (especially the "No response" post). If it is true, I'd like the episodes to be Episode 4 (no telesnaps exist), Episode 1 (carries on from The Brink of Destruction and is the earliest missing episode) and Episode 7 (final episode and continues into The Sea of Death).

I've emailed the paper about this, to enquire if the advert even existed, but have received no reply as yet.
If there is anyone that lives in the vicinity of Andover, it would certainly be worth paying a visit to the local library who should keep back copies of the local newspapers, and having a quick gander through the classified ads going back over the last month.
