Hmm, going to people's homes to interrogate them about missing episodes? May just be me, but that strikes me as out of order. Stuart Who said about going to people homes Stuart, I'm in the Uk and Bernies in Australia, bit far to go don't you think. Instead I shall write him a nice polite letter. And I diden't get Bernies Address from this forum, I got it from elsewhere. Eh, so if that's all you intend to do how exactly will you 'one way or another...find out the truth'? You write him a letter, and he ignores you - what have you proved? Stuart

Totally agree Stuart !!!!
Like I said in my posting, all these emails and letter writing, (albeiit well meant) will prove nothing. And just because he lives in a far off land, dont stop people in his country using the www. either.
Best
Steve

I hope has dosen't ignore me, but he might, just have to take that chance. Providing Bernie answers my letter, if he says he did originally have these episodes, then its true, if he says he dosen't it a hoax. Case Closed

Calm down dears! It's only a missing episode rumour! Indeed, hence my confusion at the aggressive reaction to the deletion of the thread and anyone suggesting that it might just be another hoax... Stuart

Hey!!! this is getting far too political...if it was deleated, then probably for a good cause, and not to offend anyone...come on guys....quit squabbling..... Good point - how about moving onto this suggestion (a good one I thought) from the RT Forum : "Over the years there have been thousands of US servicemen stationed at various English/US bases. Has there been any thought to perhaps having the VFW contacted to track down misssing eposides. I think it is likely that many of these service men may have made at least audio recordings. Many may have even made movies of them by aiming 8 or 16 mm home cameras at their sets. I would think it is least worth a letter from the BBC to various vetran organzaitons to inquire." Stuart

also some missing episodes may be in the hands of people who not only do not know about missing episodes they may not even know anything about the program they have other than its an episode of a british show.

The story with the python print is interesting --
It was actually found twice. Someone in Australia found a videotape copy that had been transferred from a 16mm FR and posted something about it .
Meanwhile, I bought a bunch of films (yes, from Australia) and ended up with a couple of python FRs. Someone mentioned to me that it might have this "missing" footage, so I took a look at it and lo-and-behold, there it was. I would never have even thought to look for extra footage ....
I don't know if this is the same print that was used to make the videotape in Australia or not.

I mentioned the "army" angle some months ago, thinking about British servicemen abroad, for example British Army on the Rhine (BAOR) in Germany. Can't for the life of me see how to investigate this though! Any ideas?

It's worth investigating. It's also thought that Top Of The Pops editions (probably along with other shows too) were distributed abroad to UK soldiers as a matter of course as early as the '60s. As army premises are not the kind of places one can easily search, you never know what might be stored in them.
