Hancock's 1/2 hour audio+Scott Walker audio reels

Hello All,

I recently found this material, and wanted a second opinion if I should persue it further or not. The first is I have contacted a chap in the UK who stated he has a lot of off air audio reels from Hancock's Half Hour, and possibly much more rare uk tv on the origional reel to reel audio tapes. No individual program titles yet, but are any Hancock editions missing for which no audio or video exist for ? In which case if there were, would make this a very interesting prospect. Any assistance on that one would be much appreciated.

I also found a guy in the UK who has a set of origional off air audio soundtracks from some early 1960's uk tv editions of the Scott Walker TV Show. Here is what he stated about these items, sound like they are probably in good quality. What I am really wondering if any of these recordings are lost, or remotely rare, should I see if I can get a copy or not ? That sort of thing, any info would be much appreciated.:

CDRS OF THE SCOTT WALKER T.V. SHOW FROM THE SIXTIES, IN THEIR ENTIRETY (INTRODUCTION - SPEAKING BETWEEN SONGS - GUESTS SINGING) ETC.
THE SHOWS ARE 25 MINS IN LENGTH, JUST AS THEY WERE FIRST BROADCAST.

THE CDRS ARE OF EXCELLENT QUALITY, BECAUSE THE SHOWS WERE RECORDED VIA A LEAD FROM THE T.V. OUTPUT, STRAIGHT TO A REEL TO REEL TAPE RECORDER
(UNLIKE WHAT MOST PEOPLE DID, WHICH WAS TO STAND A MICROPHONE NEXT TO THE T.V. SPEAKER).

IT IS REALLY GREAT TO BE ALBE TO HEAR THESE LOST SHOWS IN THEIR ENTIRETY, FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THEIR BROADCAST.

The Scott Walker tv series audio has been available in the past via downloadable MP3s. Not sure if it's still online anywhere (the site that was hosting the files has subsequently taken them down), but it certainly exists. Fidelity is not perfect though; I imagine these tapes were recorded by holding a mic next to the tv's loudspeaker. Also, I think that the recordings were incomplete (maybe Scott's performances only?), so your tapes will be of interest for that reason. Definitely worth persuing, I'd say.

Any video/film recordings of these shows is long-gone, of course. I'd be interested to know where joenirvana got his information that "all the Scott shows exist in brilliant quality".

Harvey Williams. I got my info from the dbetree which is a site for collectors of musical concerts/radio and television performances. Its lists every band/artist. i checked the scott walker info and it says that they have all been released in good enjoyable quality. Maybe Brilliant was abit of an exageration. As for the other performences, im not totally sure but i can find out.

i have found the generation of the tapes to be Tv - reel to reel - cdr

So it appears this person has given out his tapes before.

Back to the Hancocks 1/2 ... Lance i think you should try and obtain these reels. they might have alot of valuable shows on them

The Scott performance of Mathilde that is transmitted every so often (& was included in the recent documentary 30 Century Man) is taken from a september 1967 edition of Dusty Springfield's tv series.

Reading through the Scott listings is fascinating if depressing. He performed some of his best material in there, notably the Jacques Brel numbers. I assume these shows featured new in studio live renditions of these tunes so these recordings are certainly of huge interest to Scott fans such as myself since theres nowhere else we can hear live performances of those songs. I would most certainly love to own a copy of these.

Pity too his legendary performance on Billy Cottons' show is long gone.

I didn't get to see the recent documentary so don't know what archive material it featured but from the 1967 to 1970 period I've only ever seen the "Dusty" material and his appearance on the sole existing "Set 'Em Up Joe" from 1969. Is there anymore solo Scott footage out there from that time?
