There has been some speculation for a while now that this episode exists, I think this is proof it does. Good find William!

OMG! This is a fabulous sensational find! Thanks for this!
I have read in this forum that copies of this show apparently are in circulation though I don't think the BBC listed it as existing. When Keith Badman wrote about the first ever colour show in Record Collector several years ago he did say that "some" footage existed from the very earliest colour shows but didn't mention any further details.
Its in excellent quality and of course, I'm now wondering what else there is in existence from this legendary show!

there are many rumours of groups, managers and bbc staff "borrowing" copies of shows from the early days onwards, I think we should find a great many more such things.

Great Work William, I think the same is true. That more finds are likely from ex-employees. Hope more material might be recovered from this poster as well. Best of luck and a job well done.
Lance.

This is just a rehearsal though, not the whole thing, right? I'd love to see the full episode turn up but this is good nevertheless. I only hope the BBC eventually get it together to collect some of the TOTP stuff we know is out there! It just reinforces my view though that much stuff is out there that people generally don't know about...

This is certainly a great find and fascinating for so many reasons. Along with Marmalade and the Stones its the earliest colour TOTP footage thats surfaced. I had read here over the last few years the rumours and speculation a tape of the show was out there but wasn't quite expecting some rehearsal footage... I love the mangled closing credits where it says that The Beatles hosted the show! Interesting to see that famous silhouette of Johnnie Stewart is absent and it appears to be the only colour footage of Pete Murray on the show - quickly looking at the BBC TOTP database reveals it was the last time he hosted the show.
As is usually the case when such items turn up it raises endless questions which I hope we can learn the answers to very soon.

Hello Again,
Indeed, However I agree with William that a individual needs to approach the poster on the matter. Then to post details as to answer some of these questions that have arisen. It is great that this old TOTP stuff is surfacing, given the original show was canceled. I hope the truth about this clip can be found, who knows this poster may have other rare totp clips or performances. Given that this was Pete Murray's last host position on the show, the clip is more the interesting and important. I hope the poster can be contacted soon, and we all know the truth behind this found footage. Again, great job William !!
Cheers, Lance.

This is probably a good example of how everything gets fixed on one single event. Anyone who walked into a travelling "Record Fair" would see a large selection of material like this. The only surprise is that more isn't posted by these people on the internet. The people to really ask are the dealers at these fairs, who no doubt won't have clue, but even if they did they wouldn't tell you. It's no great secret that there is missing TOTP material out there. I narrowly missed film recording clips on a few occasions.
There are also b/w film recordings of many existing colour editions in private hands. Add on top of this a wide selection of high quality audio recordings of whole editions that despite being returned have never seen the light of day. There are even whole intact editions of "Ready Steady Go!" and other shows in private collections.
