Nice to hear but once again no sign of any complete shows from the archives being repeated. Why oh why won't the BBC repeat any complete shows from their archives? ??

Nice to hear but once again no sign of any complete shows from the archives being repeated. Why oh why won't the BBC repeat any complete shows from their archives? ?? Probably because any complete edition is likely to contain a large proportion of very obscure and even rather poor acts who were only on the show because their record was new or rising up the chart (if only in the lower reaches) and more importantly they were willing and able to appear. Doing compilation shows means you can concentrate on the more popular acts and make a better show for the general viewer... You'll notice the few complete TOTPs that have been repeated tend to be Christmas shows which are ready-made 'best of' compilations. (And that's just my opinion, not the BBC's, by the way)

It's good news that the name hasn't been forgotten and carries on in some form. Personally though I prefer to see whole shows as they were at the time, good and bad acts alongside each other - it's exactly what makes them interesting (and obscure doesn't nessesarily mean bad either; lots of excellent stuff made it's way onto TOTP over the years that has been totally forgotten). I hate clips shows as a rule; only the famous acts that are overexposed anyway get a look in with the result that anything else is airbrushed out of history, as if it didn't happen in the first place.
Bring on the complete shows!

My sentiments as well. Do we really need Steve Wright and captions. It would save the BBC a fortune to just show the performances with the DJ intro & outro and absolutely nothing else. Bring on the complete shows

Interesting reply from the BBC Gary.
Who did you write to in the first place?
If I may widen this topic slightly I have a question which someone may be able to answer.
There are four shows from the 70's that I would like to watch which unfortunately weren't repeated on UK Gold. I have resigned myself to the fact that they will probably never be released commercially on DVD.
Although it would cost me a lot of money I would be prepared to pay for a VT Engineers time (I think it's £100 per copy) to have a copy of each show and sign any contract necessary stating I won't make copies etc. (they could even put them on a copy protected DVD).
However the BBC won't do this "unless you have made a significant contribution to the show". What's the difference between me as a license payer and fan of the show paying a VT Engineer to do this for me and someone who's made a contribution to the show??

Just out of interest, Richard, which are the four shows you're interested in?

There are four shows from the 70's that I would like to watch which unfortunately weren't repeated on UK Gold. I have resigned myself to the fact that they will probably never be released commercially on DVD. There are more than just four shows from the early '70s that weren't repeated on UK Gold (or anywhere else for that matter), the 15/10/70 edition and 25/2/71 editions being prime examples (not to mention the three b/w ones from early '70). Will we ever get a chance to see these complete I wonder? I'm glad TOTP2 is back in a way but it's just "business as usual" (i.e. Steve Wright talking "wittily" over songs plastered with captions). A better bet would be a second series of Sounds Of The Sixties / Seventies; at least you just got one caption at the start and no voice-over at all. As we speak, I expect for future weeks they're cueing up the VT of the same over-exposed clips (Procol, Foundations, Status Quo, Move, Sweet etc.) when there are great unrepeated performances in the BBC archive from the '60s and '70s that would make any edition of TOTP2 far more exciting. I can identify them for you if you want, BBC - there are loads!
