I think that "Mr Soft" was found on the recently unearthed 15/8/74 Noel Edmonds & Osmonds hosted edition. Theres a good chance it could be that performance which will be shown. No idea on the Byrds though.

I had no idea the 15/8/74 edition was recently found. Any more info and on where / when it turned up?

Thanks Neil. Definitely worthwhile for the clip of Mr.Soft, i'd say! Is it a studio clip, film promo or what?

It's filmed in a studio but doesn't look anything like the TOTP studio and there is no audience.
Many people thought the Sylvia performance on 27/12/74 was taken from a BBC variety show but it is actually taken from this edition of TOTP.

you lot have to remember TOTP2 is about putting on music to entertaine the public, not to dig out rare gems to update your tradeing lists!

It can do both though - entertain and be interesting to the fans. If they fall back on the same ol' clips yet again though, the public will also get sick of it and turn off (and isn't it insulting to the general public anyway to just assume they can be palmed off with tired material?!?). Not to mention the fact that TOTP2 seems to have very poor researchers working on it; that's the only reason I can find for the wealth of pop material that sits in the archive remaining unseen (it's not hard to locate).

Well i see they partly conned us again. Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel was 'Mr Soft' from the recently unearthed 15/8/74 Noel Edmonds & Osmonds hosted edition. but the Bryds was from an american pop show (i think it's off a show called 'Hollywood a gogo').
Next weeks show is back to normal.(no new clips)
'''''The Jam, Haysi Fantaysee, Def Leppard, Tasmin Archer, Girls Aloud, Leo Sayer, Icicle Works and Tracey Ullman are the blasts from the past, and there's a new performance from Vincent Vincent and the Villains ''''

Ah, I was wondering where that Byrds clip came from! Mind you, I was thinking it was from European TV as there didn't seem to be any evidence of motion blur in the VT conversion. The Harley and Byrds clips were at least more interesting and less seen items; I hope they continue this trend in future. I just wish they wouldn't deface the clips with those damn captions.

I noticed that this week, the show was broadcast in it's native 4:3 aspect ratio.... well, apart from the new playout at the end, which was letterboxed of course.... but at least they've stopped zooming and cropping it .... makes sense to show it in 4:3 as, apart from the new performances, the majority of the show is 4:3 originally.....
Wonder if this will continue..... ?!!!

Missed the weekend show and the Jam performance. I see the new Paul Weller DVD "Hit Parade" has some TOTP performances where a promo video wasn't made.
2. All Around The World - Recorded for Top of the Pops. First transmitted July 21 1977. 3. The Modern World - Recorded for Top of the Pops. First transmitted November 3 1977. 5. David Watts - Recorded for Top of the Pops. First transmitted September 7 1978. 7. Down In The Tubestation At Midnight - Recorded for Top of the Pops. First transmitted October 19 1978. 10.
