So what have they got for 1972, as it doesn`t seem to be included here.

I thought "Virginia Plain" was meant to be on it!

Fair track listing but they should have brought out volumes for each decade. There isn't enough from any one period. Sure, not much is around from the '60s but there's definitely enough for a volume on it.

Can I just ask, I know this TOTP DVD release date is Monday, but does anyone know if it's available in shops before then? I know someone over on BBC TOTP2 message board mentioned they saw it in Tesco's today (Thurs 4 Nov) but does anyone know if it's out in any main shops???
I do have mine on pre-order from Play.com but they haven't processed or sent the order yet (I know the BBC shop has for some people) so just curious that's all !

I finally bought this to get the 60s/70s material in DVD quality. Pleased it had no voiceovers or captions. There is a good compilation of title sequences & Pans people clips as extras. General comment: top marks someone has had the guts to initiate a DVD of this untapped area. Pity a better budget & more imaginative team of compilers wasn't assigned to it. This is as all the 60s clips appeared on 'Sounds of the 60s'. I was pleased BBC used Arthur Brown as this hasn't appeared on DVD, the featuring on 'Rock & Roll greatest years' VHS compilations neglected this cut when it was put out as '60s & 70s all stars'. In relation to last comments - Would have been nice to see a new slant on the oft featured 'Whiter shade of pale'; i.e. cleaning up of print scratches or VIDfire. The 'Free' 1970 clip starts from an earlier point than usual with longer fade. However its been played to death, a better choice would have been 'The Witch' by the Rattles from the same show. Also some of the stuff like Rare Bird & the Badfinger 'Come & get it' exist in pristine colour clips. These & 'Telegram Sam' (rather than Get it on again), T.Rex would've been more inspired cuts. Presumably the 69 'glass letter' colour titles were from the underused 70 compilation reel. I noted the 'eye' version of the CCS titles was omitted, though is the best known. The box shows the 1964 titles. Pity these were left off as they exist & were used on one of the 1984 - 86 retrospect sequences. I certainly think theres room for a 'TOTP 2' DVD release addressing some of the type of points I've raised. The market is out here, but the buyer needs a more imaginatively compiled choice as a potential follow up. Certainly the B/W '7 seas of Rhye' or the Who 5.15 clip which have circulated or been offered to the BBC would be less frustrating than having to look at a still of the latter to demonstrate it as a historic high point.

the 1964 titles do not exist
the earliest surviving titles are the 1967, 2 from 68 & 69
as these are the only 60's ones that exist

The titles featuring the record player, followed by rotating long TOTP logo (as seen in background of the 64 Supremes clip) were shown on one of the 2 or 3 1980s (84 - 86) compilations. Two versions, one apparently a colour recreation, one B/W were used. As I don't recall the original sequence but definitely saw it on the latter, I assume what I saw was a mock up then, unless the 80s edition has gone missing.

This is one of the few clips I have missing from this era and would love to see this. I did hear that it had not been shown because it is overlaid with the shows end-titles. There have been rumours that the original 'Badfinger' clip has been "mis-placed" after TOTP2 starting showing the B&W TR rather than the original VT, see also Jethro Tull's Witches Promise which was shown as colout VT in the early years of TOTP2 (and SOTS) being replaced with the B&W TR for the last few years.

oh...and 'The Witch' by the Rattles as a nasty VT scratch halfway through which may have put the producers off using this clip. I guess though they wanted to go for the popular angle, most people will have heard of 'Free' ...although to be petty, that Sandie Shaw rehersal clip is not a 'true' TOTP clip, as it was never shown at the time, only 20 years later did it turn up. But does anyone know the story behind it ? Surely a TOTP rehersal didn'y normally get TR's did it

Fairly near the sarat/in the middle if I remember correctly.

No, there are no end credits over the clip. It's complete. It also exists in isolation from the (b/w version of the)show on the colour compilation reel, which seems to have been mislaid at the BBC for some time.
