Following on from the mention of Hullaballoo I'm sure no-one will be surprised to find out that when the show was released on DVD one of the few beat bands not seen was...... yes ....... the DC5!
I'm sure DC would have said no. Someone else who refused clearances was Phil Spector for a Ronettes performance. (better not mention that Spector could do with someone with good court knowledge at the moment......).
Also I heard that DC refused a BBC programme who were keen to licence a clip of Johnny Kidd and the Pirates from RSG that he has. I think at the time it was mentioned that it was the only Kidd clip available.
By the way the few clips of Shindig I've seen have been fantastic. In think they pre-recorded live audio which was then played back for the tx giving it a fresher feel than any of the sixties TOTPs I've seen.
Check out the Who performing 'I Can't Explain' on The Kids are Alright for proof.

From what I've heard the Dave Clark 5 didn't appear on Ready steady go at all which might explain the clips in the compilations hailing from other shows. I can't understand why the last shows which featured Cream & Hendrix weren't kept as examples. Bearing in mind the only 'Sexton Blake' that exists is the first episode, this implies the archive probably became regarded as a free for all when the franchise folded in 1968 with employees taking home items interesting to them as souvenirs.

I hear that prints were thrown on a skip outside at the time Rediffusion lost their franchise, if "eye-witness accounts" of the time are to be believed! A free for all indeed - wish i'd been around their premises then!

I have two complete editions of RSG with the DC5 in fantastic quality. I also have an entire film made from RSG apearance...again in great quality.
Is this stuff easy to get hold of then?? 'Cause it was so easy for me to find it.

That last one seems like its a made up episode as Paint It Black doesnt fit in with the rest timewise. The others are all earlier by about a year.Seems like a missing episode though as the ones that are complete come from earlier on.

Hey, I can do polite!
These two are cribbed from the compilations put together by Dave Clark, alas. I've heard rumours that a gen-u-ine complete episode is floating about on the trading circuit...anyone have the full SP on this?

Hiya Shaun. Long time no talkie walkie!
There are 2 complete rsg doing the rounds.
All the juicy bits were shown on the repeats. The links, dances, crowd dancing to record bits were cut e.g. the crowd dancing to James Brown, the Hummelflugs, the Zephyrs, Samantha Brown.
One is a good quality one from around November/Decamber 64. The other is poor quality and is the one with the Stones doing Around and Around.
Presumably other bits exist that were cut from the repeats. They should really be repeated as they are. The minor artists are interesting too.
Check out Tom Alger's RSG site at TVTome.
That's all I can remember off the top of my head!

Yes, these are compilations and not whole shows, judging by the contents (which seem to jump between a two or three year span). I am told that there are about three complete "regular" shows in existence:
4/10/63: Beatles, Dusty, Helen Shapiro, Tony Meehan (held by NFTVA).
20/11/64: Them, Stones, Zephyrs, Kenny Lynch, Marvin Gaye (held by NFTVA).
I'm not sure what the other regular show may be though, if it does exist (anybody?). The NFTVA also have the Stones' closing segment of the 30/11/66 edition (which is where the Paint It Black clip mentioned above comes from). There are also RSG specials on Otis Redding and Motown surviving (at least in part with the latter, as the repeat didn't include original opening credits, if I recall rightly). I'd like to know exactly what material Dave Clark has, and whether it includes any whole shows among the fragments. I'm also surprised that a few random RSGs haven't surfaced before now, given that odd Rediffusion prints do turn up from time to time.

Obviously, not having seen the thing myself, I can't gurantee it's true, but Joe Meek fandom was abuzz a few years back with tales of an "RSG" appearance by The Honeycombs doing the rounds...can anyone confirm this?

Egad, there's Cathy Macgowan footage out there that wasn't included in the repeats? Mr. Clark, you have NO heart.
