Just noticed that there is a clip of this performance on the 1970 Videoclips Page on the TOTP2 site. Surprised because AFAIK it has not as yet been shown on TOTP2.
It would be nice to see the full performance on TOTP2 sometime soon.

Is that the Film Clip with someone in the Gorrila suit Mark? I ask as there is also a studio performance which so far I think ZDF hold?

I,ve just viewed the clip Mark. it's the same as ZDF's copy. I believe it's one of those NINE colour clips 1970/1 held by the BBC but were temporarily missplaced for a while. I say this as the Badfinger clip which is part of the batch couldn't be located for the feature on the group. The good news IF this batch is now accessible is maybe apossibilty of Pickettywitch's "Sad Old Kinda Movie" getting an airing - I fervantly hope!

The Apeman clip does exist both at the BBC and in ZDF's Disco. Not sure why it hasn't been re-used in TOTP2 yet though.
The Badfinger clip SHOULD be around somewhere; I have a clip of it as used in The Rock & Roll Years years back. Presumably it will be on the same reel as those other colour clips from 29/1/70. Find that and you've got it, i'd imagine.

Yeah, we could've down with a re-airing of the "Apeman" clip at some point instead of them wheeling out "Lola" for the billionth time. As far as I'm aware, (and any corrections to this would be welcome) the only Kinks clips that TOTP2 has ever shown in 10 years are "Lola", (at least four times, probably more) "You Really Got Me" (actually from the Beat Room-masquerading as the long-lost 1964 TOTP!) which has been on twice, and "Come Dancing" which has been shown once. Even given the paltry amount of surviving Kinks TOTP footage, this is pretty unimaginative. I would Love to see the Kinks 1973 performance of the album track "Top of the Pops" which apprarntly exists, sometime.

This is merely a set of photos set to the song. Not very interesting!

They've shown "You Really Got Me" on TOTP2 at least twice from the 29-9-94 edition of TOTP too

There has been a rumour that those colour TOTP clips from '70 have gone missing for a while now, can anyone confirm deny the story ? I also heard thar Jethro Tull's 'A Witches Promise' had also gone missing. They have been shown on TOTP2 in the past, but more recently we have only seen the B&W telerecordings of these performances.
I would guess that what was used on TOTP2 (and Sounds of the 70's) would have been a copy of the original 2" tape so I guess if these copies have gone missing then it wouldn't be too much of a problem to get another copy from the original master.

Well, they are still on the BBC archives database. I checked myself a few months ago and the colour compilation reel was there. I expect they'll turn up. Someone just needs to physically seek them out.

Re The "Missing" TOTP colour 1970/71 clips. I spoke to Andrew Martin and later Rachel Mulligan at BBC research 020 8743 8000 ext 69422 or 69222 Both tod me the clips Existed but were stored at another section of the archives. I have had to tell Mark Hagen about this as much to my suprise no one else seems to! ASM

no offence, as I know at least everyone here cares a lot about preserving these programmes, but I cannot believe how badly organised the archive is if clips like these still get mislaid and we have to have discussions as to their physical location!

Afraid it seems to be so Adam. Keith Badman told me the people doing the BADFINGER documentry just could not get hold of the colour "Come And Get It" yet both Andrew Martin and Rachal Mulligan are adamant it; and the other colour clips HAVE NOT been wiped or lost. Just stored at another department of the archives!
