are you still on line? I wonder if the bbc are in negotiation with these people they did say something about a company with copyright problems, or an archive with material but wanted a lot of money to return it or something, lets hope some of these clips are from surviving shows, there is a possiblity of the the "herd" with "from the underworld" this would be nice as not much of them performing remains exept on beat club.

does any one have the 1964-1969 videos I have the two 1967 ones and the kinks and Dave dee.. are the only ones on those two OK, I've got 67 vol 2, 68 and 69 on disc now, and I can't see any TOTP clips on either other than the two you mention. There's some interesting stuff though. For the benefit of anyone who hasn't seen these, this is a rough guide to what's on 1967 volume 2: 1967 Volume 2: 1. The Who - Happy Jack (B/W) (promo, band in gangster suits) 2. The Kinks - Autumn Almanac (B/W) (TOTP) 3. Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick and Tich - Zabadak (tinted B/W) (alternate TOTP) 4. Eric Burdon - San Fransiscan Nights (colour) (promo, filmed in various US locations) 5. Mamas & Papas - Dedicated to the One I Love (colour) (US TV, Ed Sullivan?, PQ dire) 6. Aretha Franklin - Respect (B/W) (promo?, filmed on US sidewalk somewhere) 7. Donovan - Mellow Yellow (colour) (slowed down live festival footage that doesn't match soundtrack) 8. Traffic - Hole in my Shoe (colour) (very psychedelic-looking promo) 9. Sam & Dave - Sooth Me (B/W) (US TV) 10 The Who - I Can See for Miles (B/W) (British TV, close-ups only, can't remember where this is from) 11. The Spencer Davis Group - I'm A Man (B/W) (promo) 12. Jimi Hendrix Experience - The Wind Cries Mary (B/W) (TV - audience sitting on floor) 13. Arthur Conley - Sweet Soul Music (B/W) (from same TV program as Sam & Dave clip) 14. Mamas and Papas - Creeque Alley (Colour) (US TV, Ed Sullivan?, PQ even worse than before) (All have annoying scrolling text over the first 30 seconds or so.)

And 1968 looks something like:
1968:
1. The Beach Boys - Do It Again (colour) (promo: band surfing, inserts from Ed Sullivan?) 2. Small Faces - Lazy Sunday (colour) (excellent promo filmed in recording studio) 3. The Hollies - Jennifer Eccles (B/W) (nice performance promo with band in front of blackboard) 4. Esther & Abi Ofarim - Cinderella Rockafella (B/W) (promo, filmed in countryside somewhere) 5. Marmalade - Ob La Di Ob La Da (B/W) (promo) 6. Equals - Baby Come Back (B/W) (TV, but not the usual TOTP clip) 7. Mary Hopkin - Those Were The Days (B/W) (could be promo or TV; on fake ship) 8. Canned Heat - On The Road Again (B/W) (more slowed-down live footage that doesn't match song) 9. Marc Bolan - Debora (colour) (hardly woth mentioning; just a modern-day montage of album sleeves and flyers) 10. Tommy James & The Shondells - Mony Mony (B/W)(could be TV or promo) 11. Simon and Garfunkel - Mrs Robinson (colour) (live performance, soundtrack actually matches picture for once) 12. The Kinks - Wonderboy (B/W) (promo - filmed performance with nature inserts; fades annoyingly early) 13. Fleetwood Mac - Need Your Love So Bad (B/W) (could be promo or TV) 14. Aretha Franklin - I Say a Little Prayer (colour) (US TV) 15. Tremeloes - Suddenly You Love Me (B/W) (promo - performance outdoors in snow) 16. Scaffold - Lily The Pink (colour) (entertaining; looks like British TV, but not the TOTP one from montage)
(1969 to follow when I get round to watching it...)
I'd be interested in knowing the origin of the Scaffold clip; it's clearly from around the same time as Colour Me Pop, with a similiar kind of 'look' to it - if that makes sense.

I think i'm right in saying that there is a colour Scaffold clip surviving from the 1968 / 69 period from a BBC-2 light entertainment show (can't remember what offhand) and that is probably the source of the footage. I've seen it a few times myself - they are wearing white suits.
The Who clip of I Can See For Miles sounds from your description (all close-ups - manic camera work?) like the insert clip from Twice A Fortnight.

This must be a different Scaffold clip - they're all wearing different (non-white) outfits. At one point one of the guys disappears off-screen, but the camera doesn't follow to show where he goes (I think the whole clip is filmed from a single fixed camera angle.) Twice a Fortnight is probably what I was thinking of for the Who clip - it's certainly all close-ups, bar an occasional long-shot that's so quick you can't really make anything out. Is that the one that was in Sounds of the Sixties? Its certainly very similar, though I haven't watched SotS recently.

The Scaffold clip is yet another then! So there are THREE versions of Lily The Pink, it seems (including the bootleg clip which seems to be from the 25/12/69 TOTP with them wearing black suits).
The Albatross colour video clip: is this the one that appears on TV from time to time? The group are miming in a studio. Official records for Pop Quiz (which used the clip) list the source as "ex-BBC, found in library". Anyone know the programme it originally came from?
Similarly, there is a colour tape clip of Blue Mink performing Melting Pot - can anyone say which show this comes from? I have always wondered about this one when it turns up from time to time on TV clip programmes!

I could be wrong, but I've got a vague recollection that last time the Albatross clip was on TOTP2, it was credited as having orginated from a programme hosted by Julie Felix. Can anyone confirm / provide more details?
