abyone who has seen this show in its entirety might notice et the end of the show 6/6/68 saville is muted but clearly speaking and saying " see you next week for another edition of top of the pops" and that bit is used for the 25th birthday opening credits could that be why this ep survives and are there any more theories as to why its partly mute

As the partial 1972 episode was found on the end of a tape in BBC scotland there's always hope, but I am not sure how many tapes are left to be properly scrutinised. AS

Doesen't seem so William. I asked Keith Badman could they be from the chap who did those 1974 clips; but he's not sure. Really hope they're culled from much more comprehensive surviving collection.

There was another chap who got many taped shows from the fellow who taped reams of TOTP late 60's early 70's. He showed K.B Dave Edmunds TOTP clip "I Hear You Knocking" Sadly he went to jail for bootlegging.

Sadly Keith has lost touch with this fellow. Keith has been trying to trace the two people who had this stuff for a couple of years now. Sadly only rough copies of the 1974 stuff are safe now.

however, if he was bootlegging, then there should be surviving material in the hands of the bootlegerers he bootlegged to?

Good point William. But it's apparent that people are shy of admitting they received these "Goods" after he went down, as the receipt of such material is technically illegal. So unless someone raises their head above the parapet we'll never know. I am going to ask Keith Badman if he'll tell me the name of the character who landed in the jug.
