This is really - as the thread title suggests - something I thought Andrew Martin may be able to help with.
I've noticed recently that there are some clips turning up on YouTube that seem to contradict the known held ITS CLIFF archive at the BBC.
That as far as I recall consists of one T/R Jan 70 in its 'Cliff Richard Show' incarnation'; one VT from Feb 70; and a selection of - 8 ( ? ) or more from a series of 24 in 1974.
This same selection has limited the scope of researchers for many years. However recently information has been profiled on THE MAUSOLEUM CLUB about an existing segment from a Missing edition dated April 1970.
On YouTube recent postings include; 'rock and roll medley' and 'twelvth of never' both dated 1972. These both look like VT segments from (missing ITS CLIFF.
In addition; there are two unidentified source film clips from the missing Olivia Newton John period in which she duets with Cliff on 'Close to you'; and performs 'banks of the Ohio'.
Theres also a posting clearly from the BBC VT library which features Marvin Welch and Farrar; and is listed as being an ITS CLIFF special dating from August 1971.
No one ever mentions these clips and I wondered if you may have any more information?
Thanks.

Hi Rumbers - thanks very much for your kind reply.
The 'close to you' file is on 'YouTube' under 'Cliff' or Cliff Richard. I think its listed 3 or 4 pages in - as there are loads - as a clip listed 'The Case' 1972 - which is something I've never heard. I hope I haven't wrongly listed the song but description is a duet with Olivia; plus Olivia does 'Banks of the Ohio' seperately from the same piece.
Cheers - John.

Hi John, still not found that 'Close To You' clip unfortunately. The reason for my interest is that Cliff & Olivia performed it during the 1972 'BBC It's Cliff Richard' series - all of which is missing.
Cliff produced three Saturday night series for the BBC during 1970,1971 and 1972. Each series ran for 13 shows and aired between January and March those years. All 39 shows -bar one -remain missing from BBC's archives. That surviving show from the very first season is from 31st January 1970 (show 5) and features the Shadows as his main guest. There is a clip of 'Move It'' on youtube taken from this show. Nothing at all survives from the 71 and 72 series sadly. As far as i can establish the series did not travel abroad either so the likelihood of any shows surviving looks miniscule. I do have clear audio recordings of all the shows which is some consolation i suppose.
Re. the other points in your post....
<recently information has been profiled on THE MAUSOLEUM CLUB about an existing segment from a Missing edition dated April 1970.> That was my post John. I have transferred to dvd from video a lost 8 minute colour segment of show 12 (of 13) in the 1970 series broadcast on 21st March 1970. It features the opening song 'On The Beach' and a lively rock 'n'roll medley to close the show. Quality is fair to good. Looks to me like it was originally taken from quad tape -with some fall out evident.
<Theres also a posting clearly from the BBC VT library which features Marvin Welch and Farrar; and is listed as being an ITS CLIFF special dating from August 1971.> There are two one-off surviving August Bank Holiday BBC Cliff Specials from 1970 and 1971. 'Getaway With Cliff' (1971) includes Marvin Welch and Farrar performing 'Lady of the Morning'. The 1970 August Bank Holiday Show was originally made in colour but survives only as a b/w telerecording. His special guest was Aretha Franklyn and probably the main reason it was retained.
Cliff made a final belated 6-part series for the BBC (with same title) in August-Sept 1974. This is the only series which survives at the BBC and i believe someone has uploaded all of it in segments on youtube recently. Paul

If anyoneone is having difficulty finding the close to you clip on youtube. The easiest way to find it is by entering cliff richards name followed by close to you; it should be first up in the listings.

I was expecting to see a cover of the Carpenters 'Close To You', but this is a different number altogether. Its taken from a surviving 1972 BBC musical-comedy thriller entitled 'The Case' co-starring Tim Brooke Taylor and Olivia Newton-John. Cliff did cover the original Carpenters track on the 9th January 1971 edition of 'It's Cliff Richard' As i stated above nothing survives from this series at all.

Hi Rumbers - glad to see you found this (thanks also to David). Just before I tried a search for you - though David will have helped. If you do a search on 'Cliff' you may only get one page of selections but I got the clip again by doing 'Cliff' then the year of the clip (i.e. Cliff 1972). I haven't watched that clip so wasn't aware it wasn't the song we were expecting. It does say 'The Case' but I didn't know what that was; so this clears that up. Sorry if that post was misleading; I just meant a version which was a rare duet by Cliff and Olivia seeing that the series' performances of them are depleted. As regards the series - there does seem to be a special at the BBC which I've saved clips from YouTube of. Its dated 1971 and called 'GETAWAY WITH CLIFF'. There are also quite a few different performances and years of 'Day I met Marie' which is a nice find.

Rock 'n' Roll Medley & Twelfth of Never - from BBCTV's surviving '50 Years of Music' broadcast 6th November 1972. This 75 minute special co stars Lulu, Henry Hall, Vera Lynn, New Seekers and Gilbert O'Sullivan. In addition to the above tracks Cliff also sang Living Doll.
Marvin Welch & Farrar - from 'Getaway With Cliff' from BBCTV's surviving August Bank Holiday show broadcast 30th August 1971. MW&F performed 'Lady of the Morning'. Filmed on location in south of France Cliff performed (among others) 'Fire and Rain', 'In The Country' and 'Oh Happy Day'. The oft seen clip of Cliff & Olivia singing 'When Im Sixty Four' is taken from this show.
Re. Day I Met Marie - the 1968 performance in cravat actually is taken from a Dutch-German tv appearance 'Waauw' on 21st March 1969. Perhaps someone could clarify the country in which this series was made. Cliff also sang 'Dont Forget To Catch Me' and 'Good Times Better Times' in the same show but these remain unreleased. The Day I Met Marie 1970 performance you refer to could be from one of two surviving shows.. Cliff in Skansen (Sweden) - a live outdoor concert recorded for tv, or 'Cliff in Scandinavia' - a joint Scandinavian/BBC production which were both made during August 1970. The latter show aired here in Britain on 1st October 1970. The 1975 film performance is taken from 'Cliff in Copenhagen' - a Dutch tv special in which Cliff sang 11 of his hits against the backdrop of Copenhagen's landmarks. It aired on 26th April that year. Hope that helps Paul
