So this would have been on the 500th episode broadcast on 4 Oct 1973?

Great to see! Sounds like Noel Edmonds right at the end. Has the audio from TOTP been added to this video?

I know I should get a life - too late! - but the first 'gnome' in the video looks more like one of Disney's seven dwarfs. Maybe 'The Laughing Dwarf' doesn't have such a comical ring to it.

Cropped & zoomed ! 🤬
Oh well, you can't win them all.
I see a caption has been obscured - perhaps to hide a timecode?
I bet it's no coincidence that a Bowie box set of his early pre Space Oddity 7" is being released soon?
The set contains a repro 7" of TLG -with a "Take 2" of TLG on the flip side.

Thanks. I did search on youtube and order by date and there was nothing appropriate within the last 3 weeks.

The video seemed a bit ahead of it's time to me, in that the fact that the human was jerkily animated at the same time as the puppets seemed like a portent of Peter Gabriel's 'Sledgehammer' clip from 13 years later.

I vaguely remember seeing the video as a small child. Always wanted to rewatch it to see if it matched my memories. Parts of it kindof do (although remembered in b&w as we had a b&w tv at the time). I'd have been about 4 unless it was repeated sometime later.

I've had this for years.I located this - if you trawl earlier posts from way back - in CW Productions library in Kent. It's still there. archives.cwideprods.co.uk/film.php?intAsset=27077&filterBy=gnome&source=This was not put on youtube for copyright reasons, by me or anyone else who I knew had it. I don't upload anyway, I search. Kaleidoscope got a copy in 2016. It was shown last year as part of a reconstruction of the 500th TOTP as done by my good pal Robert Reinstein at a Kaleidoscope event. It had, surprisingly, been shown on a European satellite channel sometime in the 1980s. Technically speaking, it's never been missing, just it lies in an archive which has no connection with the BBC or Caravel Films.
