[Abusive comments deleted] Ian might not be everybody's cup of tea but he does not deserve to be called that rude name the man has not long had a stroke and you're calling him that shame on you

You know exactly where I was coming from there Richard, trying to calm things down a bit. Which was the right thing to do. My issue was your assertion that your have to excuse Ian's rudeness because that's down to his age and effectively, that's how old people are. It doesn't have anything to do with that and it really shouldn't be used as any excuse for the way that he chooses to conduct himself. Goodness. Why would you try to attempt to make such a crass and offensive statement about this? It has nothing to do with ego. Ian chooses to ride roughshod over people, asserting that he's absolutely right about all the things he states and that he has a "flawless memory" about things, when actually, it's anything but. So often, the only source for any of the "facts" that Ian presents is Ian himself, and they are not backed up by any outside source, but because Ian believes they are true, anything that is contrary to that is wrong. You only have to see his recent interview for that, where he once again peddles the false story about Barry Letts being furious that most of The Daemons was wiped after he asked for it to be kept, when that's not what happened at all. And it's not just a one-off. Time and time again, he asserts things as fact that palpably are not true and when he's challenged about what he says, he's never able to provide any proof to back up his version of events, so he just resorts to being abusive. When Ian repeated tells stories that aren't quite as true as he would like you to believe, you have to start wondering how many other things he's stated in the past are not quite as clear-cut as he'd like to make them out to be. It was a joke Richard, like yours about Ian having a second to none knowledge of the show. Im more than aware of what Ian is, he isnt the kind of man Id choose to spend time with. Now there is an ego. However, we cant deny his knowledge, his experience, the episodes hes found and if that means biting yer tongue then thats what I do. Are you meaning this Tenth Planet 4 business when you talk about Ians re telling of stories that arent quite true?

All of our memories are based on how we remember them.
I didn't finish watching the video but he raises a point , which appears a common consensus here, about allowing gary russell the freedom to not remain consistent with the original stories. I also don't know what was done, if anything, to rectify the situation as it continues and he keeps getting more commissions.
Also. Theres nothing to override Ian's notes from original broadcast. And we can compare with recently recovered episodes how accurate he was.
One thing i feel sorry most for is Ian has lost most of his assets through various endeavors. Some through his generosity. Others through people taking advantage of.

It was a joke Richard, like yours about Ian having a second to none knowledge of the show. If it was a joke on your part, then fair enough. It certainly didn't read that way. From my point of view, I'm certainly not joking in what I say about Ian.

So you that proves you hadn't even watched the video since one of the first things they discuss is his 70th birthday.one day you will learn to do some base homework before opening your mouth. 4th doctors quote about the inverse ratio between the size of the brain and the size of the mouth springs to mind. Was that a Davison line? Sounds Troughtonian. Neither of those Docs would say FB Possibly Hartnell's...

I recall Barry Letts at a Convention many years ago saying that he’d asked for Darmons to be kept. The Darmons must be an unheard-of missing ep which right now I feel entitled to...

I recall Barry Letts at a Convention many years ago saying that he’d asked for Darmons to be kept. I'm sure I watched a documentary once where Barry recalled being asked if he'd like The Daemons being kept and he didn't see at the time as being particularly important. Possibly on one of the DVD's extras?? He also said on a DVD documentary that if you were to retain just one year's worth of television broadcasts you would have needed an archive the size of ST Paul's cathedral.

From what I've read Barry Letts wasn't aware of the wipings while he was producer, though this might be another twisted story.

From what I've read Barry Letts wasn't aware of the wipings while he was producer, though this might be another twisted story. I know Philip Hinchliffe wasn't. During the studio recording of Genesis of the Daleks ep 3 he stated that he was interested in looking into Saturday morning cinema showings of old eps. If that'd gone ahead, would more eps have been saved?

I thought i read somewhere that Robert holmes knew about the destruction. Whether Philip was involved with the decision, i don't know. It could fit that time period.
I love Robert holmes writing, but this would be a major blunder.

Good grief. Do we really need these threads? Or at least the last two pages of it ...
I feel I'm stuck in some strange Alexie Sayle parallel world. Now let's get back to Who.

Good grief. Do we really need these threads? Or at least the last two pages of it ... I feel I'm stuck in some strange Alexie Sayle parallel world. Now let's get back to Who. Irrespective of what people think of Ian,the main thing is is that the interview in question is a load of rubbish and that I'd rather have my teeth pulled out without anaesthetic than have to sit through his mumblings about his tedious family history and the ineptitude of the interviewer! Now can we move on please?
