We know about that rumor that in the mid-1990s, an African station, possibly in Nigeria, contacted the BBC and asked if they wanted films back, but were told they could be junked as they were no longer needed. We all thought this was a rumor, but some new evidence might change that. Recently, I came across omnirumour.blogspot.com/ and I noticed on the January 2018 section, it included an interview with Richard Molesworth, along with 2 dead links to the Gallifrey Base. According to Molesworth, he found paperwork from Nigeria that shows that the 16mm prints of Marco Polo (and perhaps both the Reign of Terror and The Crusade) were JUNKED between 1994 and 1997. If this is true, not only would this confirm the rumor, but also explain why Philip Morris didn't find Marco Polo when he visited both Kaduna and Jos in 2011. Anyways, what's your opinion on this?

**According to rumours** back in 2013, Phil did indeed find Marco Polo in Jos but this was the 'something else' that went walkies with WOF3. This was why Bleeding Cool correctly predicted in July 2013 that WOF, EOTW and -'incorrectly'- MP would all be out on DVD for the 50th. Phil could therefore not deliver MP as by then it had gone, and WOF was missing ep 3, but got a DVD release after all.

Ghana and Sierra Leone showed MP after Nigeria, bicycling of the Nigerian prints would have facilitated that.

If Marco Polo, the Reign of Terror, and The Crusade were housed in Kaduna in the 1980s and 1990s, then why did Ian Levine overlook Kaduna when he was looking for missing episodes in Lagos?
Also, we know that Enemy of the World and the Web of Fear were still in Jos in the 80s and 90s, housed in the same building that Philip Morris would find them in in 2011. Had Ian Levine checked Jos in the 1980s, we would have had WoF and EotW recovered earlier than irl.
Instead, Ian solely focused on Lagos in 1984 and only found The War Machines and The Time Meddler.

Things like BroaDWcast post date that. There’s an old interview with IL where he states that every foreign sale got their own prints - the discovery of bicycling changed that and drastically cut the number of prints.

When they started the cataloging of the Bicycling of prints, they had initially thought that Marco Polo had 11 prints made for overseas sale, as explained in the Loose Canon Bonus for Marco Polo and some early forums. But investigations by Philip Morris in the 2000s that uncovered old paperwork reduced that number to 9 prints. Since many prints were junked or returned to the BBC in the 70s, our best bets are in Ethiopia or Thailand.

If the Nigerian prints were junked and place in a desert landfill, could it be possible to locate said landfill and dig it up?

If the Nigerian prints were junked and place in a desert landfill, could it be possible to locate said landfill and dig it up? The best explanation is that they went to Ghana and Sierra Leone. Landfills have been discussed recently and the chances of recovering anything, on a scale of one to ten, is somewhat less than zero.

Because like every other human being on the planet Ian is one as well and therefore is or wasn't able to drop everything and catch a plane or maybe asked someelse a favour who turned out were unavailable to help at the time. The result is we missed a golden opportunity. Recovering missing material is never that easy. I'd love a turn turn back time too you know.
