Just wondering if we could harness this technology to assist in the playback of older material?
For example TOTP song introductions with Saville and dìgitally replacing the host or say copywrite issues with hosts eg. Replacing Mike Smith as host to allow his episodes to be repeated?
I'm interested in your thoughts.

Purely meant as a way of audiences being able to watch material which currently cannot be shown, not as a way for emulation or enjoyment in any way.

Personally, I don't believe that any archive footage should be re-edited to be made more "acceptable"... but the BBC can very quickly and very cheaply simply edit out presenters, as they did on TOTP2. They just can't be bothered.

If we get/have got? to a point where this can be done effectively and seamlessly then we will never believe anything about anything we see again.
All this will cost time and money and I would rather that time and budget was spent on seeking out and repairing damaged and lost material.

Introduced by this week's top DJ Timmy Saveloy. Courtesy of BingAI. On a more serious note I think it would be grossly unethical. I'm a photographer and even just seeing all the people on Facebook colourising old black and white photos makes my blood boil.

I can understand the script writers.

'Timmy Saveloy'.. is that because he appears to have a sausage as a finger? It looks like a botoxed Pete Murray in one of Michael Fabricant's wigs.

And Top of the Pops will be back next Thursday introduced by Bruno Fivefingers... Must be handy for mixing! But yes some work still required on hands and eyes.

Seems totally pointless to me. No one (well almost no one) was watching these shows for the presenters so why bother going to such lengths to fabricate simulacrant replacements? The shows could be re-presented a lot more cheaply and efficiently by just editing out the presenters altogether or, if you really felt you had had to, (imo this would be a bad idea but still preferable and less jarring to deepfaked presenters) inserting newly filmed links by a contemporary presenter.

Why bother with links at all in fact. I'd be more than happy to see the performances back-to-back and just a caption giving artists' name and song title.

If anyone has watched The Smiths The Complete Picture VHS/DVD, there's a few 'Top of the Pops' clips used and to mask the intro they used a caption with song title before mixing in the performance. It also allowed for the full intro to be heard since all the performances were mimed and redubbed.

It also allowed for the full intro to be heard since all the performances were mimed and redubbed. That wouldn't work in all cases though. For example the studio performance of "Honey Honey" by Sweet Dreams has Savile talking over the intro and the male vocal is Tony Jackson who didn't sing on the released single. www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmub6Yw3LUE

At some time the memory of Savile will fade, as his victims die off. Then they’ll be able to show it in its original form.
