Brilliant to see a 90-minute screening of these Super 8 performances at the Kaleidoscope pop event yesterday. Considering they were shot from a little 13" Sony Trinitron, they looked pretty impressive when shown on a huge screen. Well done to all involved in their recovery, not least to Roger Hill for his ingenuity back in 1973.
A partial VT performance of '20th Century Boy' by T Rex existed as an insert in the Disco '73 programme. Here it is married up with the Super 8 footage to provide a 'best of both' complete version, courtesy of the youtube T.Rex channel:

The bulk of the Roger Hill films were shown at Kaleidoscope's excellent event in Birmingham yesterday.
I can confirm - having watched it twice - that My Love does NOT have the guitar solo in it (where Henry is alleged to have thrown up behind a curtain) and presumably was somehow edited out by the time of broadcast.
The BBC VT Dept editors cut it out flawlessly; I couldn't see or hear the edit at all.

Just to be clear, can someone clarify if the Bowie/Caraval TOTP 19/04/1973 promo version of Drive In Saturday is one of the Super 8 films? Thanks There is a Bowie recording, but it's the 'Life on Mars' promo, screened July 13th 1973. Paul Paul, this wasn't part of the compilation from the BBC at the latest Kaleidoscope event. Is this and maybe some more that were not shown (apart from the Glitter ones) from the collection? I reported on this yesterday on a group on Facebook. It's not from the Roger Hill collection - he only started filming in 1973 and the clip is from 08/04/1971.
It's a colour telerecording, and I'd never seen it before.
I've emailed the BBC (as although it was a Channel 5 show it was actually made by BBC Studios) to ask them where the footage has come from and I will keep everyone updated as soon as I get a response.
