Is the "Drive In Saturday" video available to watch anywhere?
Was it made by RCA or for Top Of The Pops by the usual suspects?

Bowie and RCA had nothing to do with it. The Laughing Gnome has surfaced and assuredly does exist (points to DVD on shelf....)

A big thank you to all people involved in this, especially Roger Hill, Paul Vanezis and Ray Langstone. I for one would love to see some or all of these clips. Fingers crossed eh?

Just to be clear, can someone clarify if the Bowie/Caraval TOTP 19/04/1973 promo version of Drive In Saturday is one of the Super 8 films? Thanks

It might just be me but i can't see why they don't just have a special night on BBC4 where they show them all. I thought budgets were tight at the Beeb and it presumably wouldn't cost much, plus some of the artists featured are still popular and remembered. Maybe they think there's not enough of us "boomers" left to justify it. Actually, there is big interest in these from the BBC and record companies. I'm quite sure that they will be made use of. Paul

Thanks Paul Vanezis for letting me know. Pity as I think the Life On Mars one is the official video that was around anyway, unless it's a caravel that I didn't know about?

I made some experimental Super8 tests with television pictures when I was a teenager, and the results were best at 18 frames per second. At 24 fps you got an obvious black bar rolling down the picture because the camera shutter was open less than 50% of the time, not enough to capture a whole video "field" (1/50th of a second duration in the UK and Australia). With 18 fps you were sure of getting a full picture on each frame of film, but not all the detail, just one field out of every two. (Two fields "interlaced" made a complete 625-line video picture.)

I see tomorrow the recovered T.Rex 20th Century Boy is getting a premier on YouTube. Its on the official Marc Bolan / T.Rex channel run by Demon Music. I imagine The Groover will eventually get a showing here too!

Great to see that performance matched up with the HQ footage. Fingers crossed the list of performances recorded gets released soon.

Think that is where they suppressed the black bars ie. the film frame was not synchronized with the television frame.
