My simple point is that everyone is entitled to their opinion. We are losing the right to free speech, just because it offends someone. You may call them bigots, that's your opinion - and you're entitled to it. But if you truly believe in a free society, then it has to work the other way as well. I believe in free speech and am a member of freespeechunion.org/But does free speech extend to defamation, inciting hate or shouting “fire!” In a crowded nightclub? I'm afraid with that comment, you're playing right into the hands of those who would silence views they don't approve of. They have frightened a large percentage of our population into silence. Dictators everywhere must be enjoying watching us self-destruct.

Dictators everywhere must be enjoying watching us self-destruct. I have no problem with people saying things I disapprove of. If everything or everyone I didn’t like were to disappear there’d be little left. I’ve repeatedly posted here against censorship. However, we have laws against things like defamation and inciting hate. People can be destroyed by having lies told about them and today is Holocaust Memorial Day. It’s very easy to talk about “rights” - but with that has to come responsibilities.

"Der Massers dirty work" I've been wondering what your intention is in repeating this over and over? Whose speech, dialect or whatever are you mocking? Yes, and what does it even mean? Also, I think use of the word "gammons" could be considered offensive by some.

What a bizarre thread. I can’t say that politics is a good thing to discuss here. It's not even about missing episodes. The five pages of this thread are pretty much dominated by around four individuals who clearly have strong feelings on the subject. Nothing wrong with that of course but there are plenty other places they could share or debate their views. Why not set up a group chat or chain email on some other medium where you can vent your feelings amongst yourselves? Ultimately it is of course up to the moderators if this continues.

The basic point, Ronnie, is that people are trying to censor our programmes of the past. We don't all share the modern view of the world, and personally I believe there will be a backlash, and "wokism" will be seen as ridiculous in the future. The posts here, inevitably, can veer into other connected areas - but it is surely relevant. I just want the BBC and others to leave our history alone. As regards this particular thread, well, nobody is forcing you to read it.

Quote: "The Nexus - off-topic chat goes in The Nexus." Anyway, some of us think that what is happening will quite likely cause some programmes or bits of them to go "missing" in the future. If we can talk "off-topic" in this forum and it's about TV, why should people who are members of this board be forced to go elsewhere?

My view precisely, Gary. What is it about anti-censorship that gets some people edgy?

My view precisely, Gary. What is it about anti-censorship that gets some people edgy? As I said previously, it isn't really about us going somewhere else to discuss it. It's about doing everything to close down any space where people might have the conversation, thus preventing it from taking place at all.

Also, I think use of the word "gammons" could be considered offensive by some. I've never understood why people who are supposedly against racism are happy to use that word, considering it's based on skin colour. I assume it's based on the popular notion that white men can't be the victim of racism.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there, Gary. But generally, I think it's about prejudice against older people, especially men.

Quote from the Mail article: "Last week she hit back at a claim on US website that she believed there are only two genders.
Rowling wrote: 'Small but important point: I've never said there are only two genders.
'There are innumerable gender identities."
This is where we are entering a new world, where the principle is: If you wish it, is is so". I grew up in a world where there are males, and females. There are also cases where, in nature, something has gone wrong. Sad, but a fact! I shall hold that view when I draw my last breath - because it is reality!

Wrong? Who are we to decide that? They happen to be an individual regardless.

What’s nowadays known as “anti-racism” is predicated upon only whites being racist and that they must be discriminated against.
