OK so now this has ended, going for a whopping £1561 what do we think? Could it really be episode 3 of series 1? Or will it just turn out to be a b&w film copy of an existing episode from a later series?
It was from a new seller with zero feedback so hopefully it wasn't a hoax.

Only 2 photos, zero feedback, new seller and no other items for sale.
Hopefully it’s real. I certainly wouldn’t want to part with that much cash without seeing more photos.

50% of the series still exists, if we count the decomposing film too. I don't know which ones, though.

A poster on another forum says they messaged the seller who replied that they had more films from their Dad's collection. How many and what they are remains unknown. Could be a gold mine of discoveries or a pile of duplicate prints.
Question is - who was the winning bidder and will they be talking to the seller about what else they have?

Philip Morris recovered episode 2 from Jos and 5 and 7 from Sierra Leone, the first of those in what was thought at the time to be useless condition (a few short clips have since been retrieved using a technique similar to X-ray tomography). An edited version of episode 6 also exists, recovered from a film collector.

Positive feedback for the seller of this so obviously genuine. As to which episode 3 it is remains to be seen.

The winning bidder's 292 positives is reassuring. At last night's Fantom Zoom event, Paul Vanezis stated that Kaleidoscope had won the auction. If so, I guess we'll hear more from them in due course, assuming the print is from Season 1. And if it is, I hope it will be returned to the BBC Archive so that it can be fully restored and shown to millions on BBC (like episodes 5 and 7).

If it is episode 3 of series 1 ,I hope if the BBC get it back they give it the same treatment as the morris recovered episodes with restored colour and vidfire

If it’s got chroma dots and a decent result can be obtained I’m sure they will.

If it does turn out to be a missing Morecambe and Wise episode I hope the BBC can release it along with the previous two recovered episodes on DVD.

Getting optimistic about this now!
