Some photos from Lift Off have surfaced. Interesting to see that it looks like the TOTP performance was pretty much an exact copy of the earlier one (although Woody has dyed his hair blonde!). With no news on this I’m thinking no footage has been found or saved. A shame as I’d have loved to have seen it. I’m guessing by now something would of been said if this was found to exist still.

From the Kal Facebook page it seems the transfer has been financed by the BBC and they have control on any announcements.

It’s now been about two years I think and nothing wouldnit be most likely to accept now that the footage either was not on the tape or was no in any usable condition as surely the Bowie estate would of paid for a restoration if it did exist! |

This year marks 50 years since the album Ziggy Stardust it’s also 50 years since the first performance of the song was done on the children’s TV programme lift off of course we have the wonderful top of the Pops version but is there any news that’s being made available regarding the existence of the original performance on lift off as I’ve Not heard anything about it since it was claimed to have been recovered

A tape had been found that stated that the Bowie clip was on that tape, but the tape has not been readable. It's still unknown if the clip is on that tape. |

Probably reused 1/2” computer tape wound on to 5” reel to reel spools. I believe computer tape, although apparently of lower grade, was cheaper and could give acceptable results for early home video. Tapes were extremely expensive back then. |
