I'd say "possibly" rather than "probably", all those above - particularly "Lift Off".
Didn't "Monty Python" get saved due to pure luck and being in the right place?

Yes IIRC that wiley Michael Palin bought the rights (on behalf of the MP cast) off the BBC about 6 years after first transmission when the BBC regarded the show as finished and thus near worthless. This gave them access to the tapes which they promptly packaged off to a TV station in Florida and thus the beginning of MP's worldwide cult. You have to admire Michael Palin who knows how to play the BBC and got them to pay for all the places around the world he wanted to see LOL.

I did think that Monty Python had managed to get the Flying Circus copied onto a domestic format by an engineer who was a fan.
Later on they gained the rights to the original masters after suing the BBC when they re-edited a compilation intended for showing in the USA.

Not meant as a personal comment on either of you! It's just that it's rather factually inaccurate, that's all.

Finally got round to watching the Bowie documentary with the highest expectations of enjoying all the rare footage ... but had to abandon it after about 5 minutes before I got to anything I hadn't seen, because it was such a poorly produced programme : another 'arty farty' production of lightning fast cuts from one thing to another and disembodied voices floating over the screen , this time accompanied by the words themselves as intrusive sub-titles, without any opportunity to absorb the content of what was being shown ; appalling. Whoever made it needs to get his / her head out of their bottom and consider presenting material such as this in a way that does it some honour.

While I largely agree with you, it somehow works with Bowie as he was similarly 'arty farty' (no offense, I am a fan!). Would've been more appalling if they'd done something similar on (say) Slade! I did enjoy it, but at the same time I wouldn't be tempted to watch it again.

Is there anyone involved with it’s recovery we can contact., The tape in question is in the hands of Kaleidoscope- the impression I've gotten from them is that they will make their announcement when they wish, and that contacting them won't speed that up.

Some photos from Lift Off have surfaced. Interesting to see that it looks like the TOTP performance was pretty much an exact copy of the earlier one (although Woody has dyed his hair blonde!). Compare: www.5years.com/loa.htmWith: www.5years.com/top.htmThe former link also includes a low-fi audio file.

Nah that looks like stills photography. That, and the tapes Kaleidoscope have, based on how they've described them and the little bits they have shown, appear to all be in black-and-white.

The black and white images look great. I hope they are from the tape but they look very good and I’m not sure if it’s from the b&w footage or professional photos taken on set. Does anyone know?
