There is some new information about this, to help locate something from it perhaps?


Firstly, from The Stage Thursday 01 July 1976 ITV's Light Entertainment plans for summer and autumn

London Weekend's Rock Festival begins with three 60-minute programmes which will be
transmitted at 11.30 pm on Friday July 16 when the first of the series, Too Old To Rock And
Roll, Too Young To Die, features Jethro Tull...

Secondly, from tvpopdiaries, here are the entries for the three 60-minute programmes

Friday 16 July 1976 LWT Too Old To Rock N Roll Too Young To Die 11.35 -12.20 am Jethro Tull Special

Great News received on the 1st November this year from Jane Alvey (Curator) of East Anglian Film Archive - The Archive Centre, County Hall, Martineau Lane, Norwich, NR1 2DQ ...

I have amended the title on Page 1 from Anglia Beat A Musical to Beat Top Hit Paraders
as well as researching these programmes for us EAFA suggest they may have gone out live, the
East Anglian Film Archive has very kindly given us the television schedules from the TV Times (Anglia Edition)(Thank You Jane)

As there are Anglia TV programmes at the British Film Institute which originated on video, I checked BFI Collections Search without success. I’ve also checked the Anglia TV published histories and various programme lists without finding any further reference to the programmes.



I wanted to check these other sources to be able to give you a full answer, but gave a short reply to Angela so she could see I was on the case. This could be a programme which was assembled from live and recorded elements and transmitted live.

I think the two editions of ‘Beat - Top Hit Paraders’ may have been pre-recorded. I’ve found out that all the performers in the programmes were support acts on Bobby Vee’s UK tour that took place in February 1962. The tour reached Peterborough in East Anglia on 18 February 1962. There was then a break in the tour for 2 days. It’s possible that the support acts visited the Anglia TV studios in Norwich on 19 or 20 February 1962 to record the two ‘Beat’ programmes.

from NME 23rd Feb 1962, it says that the shows were booked as a package by Tito Burns to fill a vacant date in the tour schedule.
Both shows were tele-recorded on Tuesday 20th February 1962. Bobby Vee did not take part because he was filming his guest spot in Billy Fury's Play It Cool movie on that day.
