I distinctly remember seeing the Sea Devils omnibus in the 1970s-it was during the summer and on a weekday? The omnibus editions certainly elevated the reputation of some Dr Who serials in the public's imagination-the Sea Devils themselves appear clunky and the interior sets of the Sea Devil lair consist of simple black drapes but hey,it's a 6 -part Pertwee in full-colour and I love it!

The original showing of The Sea Devils 88-minute compilation was on Wednesday 27 December 1972 and then shown again in place of the cricket on Monday 27 May 1974.

I take it that both Omnibus Daemons and Sea devils are lost/wiped?

The Daemons, Day of The Daleks, The Sea Devils and The Green Death compilations are all wiped. Audios exist of all of them though (I've yet to track the one for Day down though!)

If either of those two story's had survived as compilation's they would have been re used to re master all the episodes in full PAL Color. It would make The Sea Devils DVD look oh so much better

an 68 minute version of The Sea Devils is not even 4 full episodes, why not run Curse of Peladon instead at least then they would show 95% plus percent of the story

a 4 part story with opening and closing credits and recaps usually runs about 1 hour and 36 minutes so I cant see an 88 minute ve4rsion not loosing nay source material

The one four part compilation was only given a 60 minute transmission slot, not a 90 minute one.

Does the original American broadcast omnibus of the Daemons still exist? Was it an edit that was made in the UK then sent to the USA?

Out of curiosity I timed it. Cutting the five sets of titles and the overlaps removes about 14 minutes off the running time. The overlap at the start of episode three is a bit of a long one (around 2 and 1/2 minutes).

Also to remember in the UK the BBC showings had no advert breaks, so UK BBC timings would always be a lot shorter than in the US. so the 88 minutes running time is about what is left when the 6 episodes are merged together, i remember that the end title screech often was left at the episode join on some of these compilations.
Its sometime since i watched the Sea Devils.

The six episodes of The Sea Devils lasted approximately 148 minutes in total. When you remove five sets of opening and closing results and the respective cliffhanger recaps, you'd be talking about no more than 10 minutes worth of material, bringing the initial length down to around 138 minutes.
So in bringing the six episodes down to an 88-minute running time, you'd need to be removing around 50 minutes worth of material, aside of the titles and recaps.

If that is the case it would be nice to know what was edited out, with so much action in the story, there was little padding, except the Clangers, which was a fun part.
but as nothing survives we will probably never know.
